Dempsey back for another ton
Wonthaggi Club’s Emmett Dempsey produced his second ton in as many weeks, recording 106 off 59 balls and smashing nine sixes.

A Grade, Division 1

EMMETT Dempsey went back-to-back with another ton for Wonthaggi Club against Inverloch on Saturday.

Despite losing opening batsman Mitch Thomas early at 1/29, Dempsey charged to a massive run tally of 106 off 59 balls with an incredible nine sixes. 

A catch by Stingray Callum Asbury eventually ended Dempsey’s reign at 3/134.

Inverloch’s fielding side worked hard to stifle the rest of Club’s innings, with Jake Dennerley giving his own outstanding performance.

Dennerley wreaked havoc on Club’s batting order, claiming 5/43.

However, another 58 runs from Lochlan McLean had Club sitting comfortably at 9/248.

The Stingrays went into its innings on a mission.

The opening partnership of Jack Butcher and Walter Taberner got  the chase off to a bright start with 84 including 56 and 50 runs respectively.

Dylan Clark then added 32 runs.

But Club spinner James Sheerin started to turn the tables with 4/40 off 7 while Mark McCall was tight with 3/36 off 8. Inverloch finished its innings with 9/199. 

Town claw a win from the Imperials 

IN A thriller, Town edged out the Imperials to secure a win on Saturday by the narrowest of margins in a shortened contest.

Both teams had only 25 overs to put up a competitive score with Imperials winning the toss and electing to bat first. 

The opening partnership of Luke Rogers and Nick Eddy started strong with 35 runs each.

Mark Lafferty and Rowen McLennan rounded out the innings with 18 and 19 respectively. Both were not out at the end of the innings.

Town bowlers Darcy and Rhett Hume each claimed two wickets.

The Imperials were left to defend 5/134.

Town’s opening batsman Amila Ratnaike top scored with 47 runs before he was bowled by Rogers. Captain Jesse Giardina contributed 24 runs.

Imps captain Lachie Wright claimed 2/26, with Rogers taking 2/27. Town just got over the line by a run, finishing off its 25 overs with 7/135, Darcy 12* and Jack Hume 5* getting them home.

Red Caps too strong

A 72 run effort from Loc Roberts saw Nerrena record a win over OMK.

Playing at home, Nerrena won the toss and chose to bat first.

Roberts opened the batting with captain Mitchell Clark.

A catch from Noel Creed dismissed Clark at 1/34, as Roberts continued his run.

Roberts was caught by Thomas Wyatt at 6/132.

Josh Checkley contributed 21 runs to the tally.

OMK captain Jacob Lamers claimed 2/22 and Ethan Lamers took 2/21.

Nerrena finished its innings comfortably with 7/146.

Nerrena bowler Josh Trease made it difficult for OMK to make its mark on the scoreboard, bowling the opening partnership of Jake Cochrane and Ethan Lamers at 1/20 and 2/36 respectively.

Captain Koby Brann later hit 48 runs before a catch from Kade Berryman had him sidelined.

Mitch Clark returned figures of 3/18, with Timothy Wightman taking 3/32.

Ryan Clark was also a multiple wicket taker.

OMK was short with a final tally of 10/120.

Cobras shellshocked

DANIEL Mock left Korumburra hurting after he was just shy of a ton for Phillip Island on Saturday.

Playing at the Newhaven Recreation Reserve, Phillip Island won the toss and elected to bat first.

Opening batsman Lachlan Cleeland was dismissed at 1/51, and Mock ran the show with Brodie Johnston from there.

Johnston accumulated a respectable 77 runs and Mock made it to 92 off 80 balls.

Multiple wickets were taken by Thilakaratna Dilshan and Levi Gooch, but the damage had been done.

Phillip Island was confident in its ability to defend 5/226.

Dilshan went on to top score for Korumburra with 36 runs before he was caught by Cleeland.

Hemal Ratnayake added 18 runs, but the rest of the innings was quiet from the Cobras.

Phillip Island bowler Simon Kirton claimed 3/14, with Max Royal and Zac Brown claiming two each.

Rattled by the might of Phillip Island, Korumburra conceded defeat at 10/113.
