IT WAS a closely contested battle as ladder leaders Nyora and Inverloch faced off on Saturday.
Nyora travelled to Inverloch’s Thompson Reserve, winning the toss and choosing to bat first.
Although Nyora has shown its strength and earned its spot on the top, it was not ready for the threat posed by Inverloch bowler Lewis Rankin.
Rankin was in fine form early, dismissing Henry Dolphin and Scott Peatling for two and 11 runs respectively.
Nyora captain Jake Henry, Jy Hull and Myles Cordeux were all dismissed for ducks at the hands of both Rankin and Jesse Dugard.
Benn Hayes steered the ship back in the right direction, putting 20 runs on the board for Nyora.
Aaron Thompson finished off the innings with the top score of 39 not out.
Ultimately, Rankin claimed 8/26, demolishing Nyora’s batting order.
Dugard and Cooper Newman were the only other wicket-takers.
Nyora was bowled out 10/101.
Inverloch opened its innings, but Nyora was keen to restrict scoreboard opportunities.
Riley Harris made eight runs before he was caught by Myles Cordeux off the bowling of Dolphin.
Kit Rotthier added 13 runs before Reece Cordeux claimed his wicket, having also dismissed Jack Butcher for a golden duck.
Jacob Strickland and Jake Dennerley had made six and three runs respectively at stumps and will continue the innings this Saturday.
Inverloch is sitting on a score of 3/32.
Kilcunda-Bass powers to 271
KILCUNDA-BASS put in a dominating effort over Glen Alvie.



Choosing to bat first, Kilcunda-Bass opened well with Cameron Davidson making 21 runs.
Opening batsman Aaron Conron was dismissed early by Matthew Dakin for nine runs, but Brad Wright entered and recorded the top score of 65 runs.
Todd Smith later matched this with another 64 runs.
Captain Matthew Grayson and Jaydan Tragear contributed to the score with 43 and 30 runs respectively.
Dakin had a dominant day for Glen Alvie, claiming 5/66.
Zack Scholz and captain Ben McRae took two wickets each.
Glen Alvie will have its turn at bat this weekend, chasing Kilcunda-Bass’ score of 10/271.
Lakshan’s five-wicket haul
MDU came up against Foster at the Meeniyan Recreation Reserve.
Foster won the toss and chose to bat.
The swift dismissal of Mitchell Jones and Mitchell Allott saw Ollie Rook and Josh Toner take control of the game.
Rook made 55 runs and Toner made 67 runs before they were both dismissed by Sembakuttige Chathura Lakshan.
Lakshan played a strong innings, claiming 5/59.
Jake Palmer was the only other multiple-wicket taker.
After 55 overs, Foster was bowled out 10/169.
MDU opened its account with Mark Le Page leading the way with 32 not out.
Foster bowlers Michael Cooke and Eddie Smith made it difficult for MDU to add much more to its score, but Wayne Prosser finished the day with 18 not out.
With 3/66, MDU will be gunning for Foster’s score this weekend.
