THE inaugural season of the LDCA women’s competition has been terrific with some quality cricket being played and plenty of fun being had.

This Sunday, the finals series begins, and it’s poised to be an absolute belter.

The finals will kick off with a big bang this Sunday with the Semi Final Super Smash!

The grounds of Bass Recreation Reserve will host a triple header on Sunday February 19, as the women’s squads from around the association battle it out to earn themselves a spot in the big dance.

From 10am, it’ll be the hometown Sharks Kilcunda Bass White, taking on Foster Yellow, for a chance to face Foster Black in the division two Grand Final.

Then from 1pm, Koonwarra L/RSL will take on Nyora and finally the match of the day will see the undefeated Inverloch take on Kilcunda Bass Blue, both games to decide who books a trip to the big dance.

However, as good as it shapes to be, the cricket is not the only drawcard for the day.

Alongside the huge matches on the pitch, will be plenty of activities to ensure all kids, supporters, officials and the general public have an awesome and memorable afternoon.

The Melbourne Stars truck will be there with a visit from Star Man and Star Girl, there’ll be face painting, the canteen will be open all day and there’s a function in the social rooms for those who want to watch the cricket in style.

LDCA female cricket co-ordinator Cam Chasemore is pumped for the day and bullish about the league and the success it has had in its first season, he spoke to the Sentinel Times last week.

“We would really love to see as many women as possible come down and see what the competition is all about, most of the girls who play are just mums, wives or partners of current male players,” he said.

“Or just local club girls who wanted to get this up and running and be an example for all women and encourage everyone to give it a go, the girls have had so much fun and we hope it grows from here.”

Representatives from Cricket Victoria and the local Council will also be in attendance to enjoy the festivities and see who makes the Grand Finals.

Chasemore is also the president of the Kilcunda Bass Cricket Club and mentioned his immense pride for what they’ve put together.

“As president of the KBCC I am so proud that we have filled two teams into this competition this season, I’m also excited to host this event at Bass Recreation Reserve as it gives me a chance to showcase how amazing our facility is,” he said.

“I would love to one day make Bass the home and hub of women’s cricket for the LDCA.”
