NYORA clung on to a seven-point victory against Nilma Darnum on Saturday.
It was a battle between ninth and 10th at the Nyora Recreation Reserve, with Nyora’s percentage now inching towards that ninth position.
Nilma Darnum got the ball rolling with two early goals, but Marley Huet managed to open Nyora’s account at the eight-minute mark.
Another goal to Jono Hewitt kept Nyora in it, but Nilma Darnum had taken an early command with a three-goal lead.
Although Nilma Darnum kept its lead in the second term, Nyora fought back to win the quarter.
Tough conditions made for a slow start to the quarter, but Nyora was the first to hit the scoreboard when Dylan Heylen kicked truly to send the ball through the goalposts 13 minutes in.
From there, Caleb Crestani and Lucas Lee contributed to the tally in a matter of minutes, and Rex Lazaros kicked the last goal of the quarter to bring the margin within five points at halftime.
A behind to Nilma Darnum launched the third quarter, and Nyora was quick to respond with a goal by Crestani.




Nilma Darnum continued to rack up the behinds before getting another goal 12 minutes in, which would safeguard its lead for another quarter.
With just one quarter left in it, Nyora had fallen 14 points behind.
Nyora gave everything it had to bring it all together with a powerful final quarter.
A five-goal haul heading towards the dying minutes of the game pushed Nyora ahead of Nilma Darnum.
A final behind to Nilma Darnum to close the game saw Nyora celebrating a victory.
The best players for Nyora were Tyler Kirkbride, O’Pili Paora, Tyler Hotchkin, Crestani, Corey Lucas and Lee.
