AN IMPRESSIVE 127-run haul from Alex Geyer has Wonthaggi Club sitting comfortably in the two-day A1 match against Koonwarra L/RSL.
Playing at the Koonwarra Recreation Reserve, Geyer opened the batting with Mitch Thomas.
Thomas was caught by Isuru Darshana off the bowling of Nick Arnup after four runs, but the Cougars’ fielding side had more difficulty slowing down Geyer.
Geyer’s contribution to the scoreboard was aided by Harry West, captain Joel Brann and Gavin Britt, who made 54, 50 and 53 runs respectively.
Koonwarra L/RSL bowler Jason Kennedy led the charge to dismiss Club’s batting order, claiming 6/38 and easing some of the damage.
Callum Buckland was the only other multiple-wicket taker.
Although bowled out, Club is set to defend a high final score of 10/376.
Mock’s heroics fall just short
CAPTAIN Daniel Mock was just shy of a ton in Phillip Island’s match against Nerrena.
Phillip Island won the toss at its home ground and sent in the opening partnership of Brodie Johnston and Lachlan Cleeland.
Cleeland was bowled by Mitch Clark after making 29 runs, allowing Mock to step up.
Mock went on to bat 94 runs before he was bowled out by Jarrod Hoy.
Johnston was also in great form, making 84 runs.
Hoy and Josh Trease each took two wickets, and three runouts helped Nerrena work through Phillip Island’s batting order.
Phillip Island made 9/252 with Nerrena to bat this weekend.
Crocker’s duck leaves Cobras vulnerable
KORUMBURRA has its work cut out for it, with defending 10/196 against Leongatha Town.
Playing at Scorpion Park, Leongatha Town won the toss and sent Korumburra in to bat first.
The loss of captain Tom Crocker for a duck was a blow to the Cobras, but Andy Millar and Jason Richards held their own and made 30 and 27 runs respectively.
Rumesh Rangana later top-scored with 38 runs and Matthew Allen contributed 32 runs.
Ethan Smith was Town’s top bowler, taking 3/53.
Rhett Hume, Ron Abeysinghe and Pandukabhaya Jayasinghe each claimed two wickets.





Korumburra was bowled out in the 62nd over, leaving Town enough time to open its account.
Abeysinghe opened the bowling with captain Jesse Giardina and was 30 not out at stumps.
Giardina made 24 runs before he was caught by Zachary Barrett off the bowling of Millar.
Dulaj Lakshitha Mendis Polwaththa Gallage stepped in after Giardina and made three not out.
Town played 13 overs and made 1/58.
It will continue its innings this Saturday.
Second innings set to decide it all
TWO low-scoring first innings by OMK and the Imperials will see the match determined by their second innings efforts next Saturday.
OMK won the toss and chose to bat.
Imperials’ vice-captain Lachie Wright proved too strong for OMK, as he claimed 6/42.
Wright dismissed the opening partnership with Clayton Quaife dismissed LBW for a duck and Ethan Lamers bowled out for a golden duck.
Batting fifth in the order, Noel Creed managed to get a score on the board with 38 runs.
This turned out to be OMK’s top score in the first innings, with Peter Dell later contributing 16 runs.
Imperials bowlers Isaac Bolge and Aydan Williams took two wickets each.
OMK was bowled out 10/65 in the 30th over.
The Imperials managed to just surpass OMK’s score but were bowled out with a score of 10/69.
Nick Eddy opened the batting for the Imperials and made the top score of 19 runs before he was bowled out by Dell.
Rowen McLennan and Timothy Sauvarin contributed 17 and 12 runs respectively.
Ryan Williams was OMK’s top bowler, taking 4/20, while Dell claimed 2/22.
OMK opened its second innings with the partnership of Clayton Quaife and Zavier Lamers.
They made three and seven not out at stumps.
The match will be decided this Saturday.
