KORUMBURRA-Bena triumphed over Garfield at home on Saturday.
Club president Ken Myors said it was a pleasure to watch the Seniors deliver four solid quarters of footy to come away with a well-deserved 15-point win.
The conditions at the Korumburra Showgrounds were wet after a bit of rain during the back end of the Reserves, but the ground remained in good nick.
There was a good atmosphere throughout the club as a decent crowd rallied around the Seniors.
The Giants started the game on the back foot, struggling to adapt to the windy conditions.
Tyler Newton and Zach Walker worked tirelessly down back to contain Garfield and ensured the score didn’t blow out before the Giants got their bearings.
During the second quarter, the Giants kept Garfield to a point whilst adding three goals to their score.
Nicholas Besley kicked two goals for the day and singles were shared between five other goal kickers.
The Giants executed coach Josh Hopkins’ game plan brilliantly.
Garfield kept pushing, but the Giants worked well together coming out of the defence.
Hugh Gordon gave a solid performance for the Giants and Tom Crocker took some excellent grabs in the forward line.
Paul Fermanis returned to the lineup as if he hadn’t been away and Hopkins fought hard all day.
Garfield recognised Hopkins as someone it needed to negate, and the opposition played a heavy tagging role on him throughout the game.

Despite this, Hopkins battled through.
Joel Anthony played a great game down back and did what he needed to do to save a few goals. Unfortunately, Anthony came off injured just before halftime.
Of late, the Giants have had trouble coming back with the same momentum after halftime.
With a few adjustments, Hopkins was able to sort out those niggles and the Giants delivered its strongest third quarter yet.
Garfield spent a bit of time with the ball in its forward line, but Newton and Joel Cuman were able to mop it up and clear the ball back out.
The Giants midfield stood up to the challenge, led by the consistent Kye Benson.
Benson moved the ball well and allowed the Giants more opportunities in the forward line.
The Giants kicked three goals in the third quarter to Garfield’s one.
Both sides struggled to score in the fourth quarter.
Garfield was held scoreless by the Giants’ defence, solidifying the win.
Coming off the back of a win, Korumburra-Bena will take on Bunyip next week.
Bunyip has worried Korumburra-Bena historically, but the Giants see it as a winnable game, provided they play the same brand of football as this week.
Korumburra-Bena defeated Bunyip earlier in the season and hopes to see improvement.
