KORUMBURRA-Bena gritted its teeth and delivered a full four quarters only allowing Warragul to come away with a 31-point win.
The Seniors ran out onto the field after the Reserves won their second game in a row – a feat that hasn’t been accomplished by the Giants’ Reserves in seven years.
With everyone in high spirits, the Giants ran out of the gate quickly and recorded the first two goals of the game.
The conditions in Warragul were excellent for footy and the Giants took advantage of the stellar ground.
Warragul fought back to ensure it had the lead going into the quarter-time break, kicking four goals.
However, the Giants demonstrated effective defensive skills and stifled a blowout, forcing Warragul to kick six behinds.
The intensity continued into the second quarter, which proved to be a bit more of a tussle.
Coach Josh Hopkins has been implementing a strategy to really utilise the speed in the Giants’ lineup.
Rebounding out of the defence, the Giants were able to successfully make three or four lovely forays into their forward half.
However, skill errors hindered the Giants’ capacity to kick away, as they were unable to convert their opportunities.
The Giants also went into the half time break a man down, after Jye Celebrine came off the ground with a head injury.

Celebrine will miss next week’s game, as per concussion regulations.
Time and time again, the third quarter has been where the Giants have fallen over.
Keen to not see it happen again, Hopkins addressed his team in the huddle, reminding them to respond, and maintain focus and momentum.
Guy Dickson delivered in the backline, leading the charge to limit Warragul to just four points.
Zach Walker also performed well in defence, creating opportunities to get the ball back into Korumburra-Bena’s forward 50.
With one quarter to go, Korumburra-Bena showed it was unwilling to give up and inched within seven points of Warragul in the first 10 minutes.
Whilst the pressure from the Giants didn’t let up, Warragul powered through and pulled away to claim the victory.
Korumburra-Bena is now gearing up to face Koo Wee Rup this weekend.
Seventh-placed Koo Wee Rup is a similar side to the Giants, which is sure to create an interesting matchup.
Saturday will also be Korumburra-Bena’s Past Players and Sponsors’ Day.
This will be a big day for club, with many guests coming along to enjoy the festivities, and the Giants will be looking to serve up a quality game of football.
