FOSTER RSL’s program of events on ANZAC Day was well supported by the local district. A crowd of some 300 people attended the ceremony held at the war memorial Cenotaph in Foster, including visitors from other areas as well as locals.

RSL president Bruce Lester conducted the ceremony, which began with the arrival of marchers led by a WWI mounted Australian Lighthorse re-enactor, Will Pridham. An Australian light infantry ex-army vehicle provided and driven by ex-serviceman Cameron Stone followed up as rear guard.

President Bruce spoke on three of Foster’s ex-servicemen: the late Will Power, Robert Mahomed and Baden Williams, whose names are engraved on the Cenotaph and each of whom died in extreme and sad circumstances serving Australia.

Bugler Felicity Weight gave a very moving presentation of The Last Post.

Following a wreath laying ceremony a formal service was conducted in the Foster War Memorial Arts Centre. Guest speaker Lt. Commander David Lassam (ret) a former Australian Naval medical officer, spoke on the role of the Australian Navy in the Pacific in WWII. Local musicians Bec Bone and Fiona Curram enhanced the service with beautiful musical tributes of respect and remembrance.

A barbecue lunch was served at the Foster RSL clubrooms, where people shared memories and enjoyed the company of others.

Prior to ANZAC Day, Foster RSL members had also conducted ANZAC services at Foster Primary School, Foster Secondary College and Corner Inlet College. An afternoon service was held on ANZAC Day at Prom Coast Aged Care, Foster.

Foster RSL thanks everyone who helped support ANZAC Day in Foster. Thank you to the local schools for their interest and attendance, to the community for coming along on the day, and to all others who gave support in various ways.
