THE first of the Leongatha & District Cricket Association Women’s competition kicked off on Sunday with the feature being an excellent contest between Nyora and Kilcunda Hammerheads at the Bass Recreation Reserve.

Sent in by Nyora, Kilcunda managed 104 off their 20 overs with Caroline Moore 15 and Sarah Tyrrell 11 leading the way. In response, Nyora always had the target in sight, but they had to keep the score ticking over, finishing with 121 off their 20 overs; Kystin Wurzbacher 24, Lisa Camp 13 and Shona Lynch 12 among the main scorers.

In other matches, both Inverloch Stingettes 133 and Koonwarra Leongatha RSL 109 had comfortable wins over Leongatha Town and the Foster Tigers; Nicole Creaser 24, Mia Dugard 18 and Jessica

McDonald 18 scored freely for Inverloch while Kathy Zacharopoulos 25, Melissa Carter 21 and Rachel King 18 did well for Koonwarra L/RSL.

The weather was ideal for the first round of competition and the matches were played in a good, competitive spirit.
