B Grade, Division 1

INVERLOCH finished the job with a couple of balls to spare and five wickets in hand against Meeniyan Dumbalk United after the visiting MDU elected to bat and set the Stingrays a target of 156.

A sterling unbeaten 81 from 114 balls from Inverloch skipper Brett Debono laid the foundation for the Stingrays’ successful chase.

John Richardson’s 31 was the next biggest contribution for the winning side.

Andrew Richardson had the standout bowling figures for beaten MDU, conceding just 12 runs off his eight over allotment and dismissing Debono’s opening partner Riley Harris for a duck.

Earlier, MDU made a slow and steady start to its innings, with opening pair Gary Webster and Wayne Prosser making 55 runs between them off a combined 136 balls.

Number three batsman Jai Bright stepped up the tempo striking 56 runs from 59 deliveries, including seven fours and a couple of sixes before being run out by Cooper Newman.

John Richardson was the pick of the Inverloch bowlers, sending down a miserly eight overs for just 13 runs and knocking over MDU skipper Craig Hoober for 18.

Phillip Island too strong at home for Imperials
IMPERIALS chose to bat against host Phillip Island but were unable to set enough, despite the Sharks getting off to a shaky start in reply when Connor Epifano was sent on his way without scoring.

Phillip Island built its win around captain Kurt Lane’s devastating 58 from 29 balls featuring four sixes and six boundaries.

By the time he became the fifth wicket to fall, the Sharks needed just 12 runs for victory, that task completed in the 28th over without further loss.

Lucas Anderson impressed with the ball for Imperials, accounting for both Phillip Island openers to finish with 2/18 off eight overs, including four maidens.

Earlier, Phillip Island used just five bowlers with all performing strongly.

While David Womersley bowled only four overs, he made them count by capturing 2/8.

Sharks skipper, Lane preceded his batting heroics with 3/25, bowling his maximum eight overs as did teammates Jobe Williams (1/21) and Harry Arceo (1/27).

OMK flattens Town
LEONGATHA chose to send in visiting Outtrim Moyarra Kongwak at Scorpion Park, with OMK making a solid 6/146 from its 40 overs then delivering a powerful bowling and fielding display to secure a 68-run win.

OMK skipper Kris Kerr set the standard with the willow, making 65, with Mitchell Nicholas (21 not out) the next biggest contributor.

Viraj Peiris captured 3/32 for the Scorpions, with young leg spinner Ethan Smith taking 2/29, each bowling their maximum allotment of overs.

Wil Dawson’s 18 was the highest score for Leongatha Town, with Ben Maguire’s 3/14 from seven overs the best figures for victorious OMK.

Korumburra musters enough against Cougars
WHILE Korumburra was knocked over for just 118 runs, with Jye Celebrine’s 24 its best score, that total proved sufficient as the visiting Koonwarra Leongatha RSL could only combine for 82 runs.

The bulk of those came from the blade of Isuru Darshana who struck 34 runs.

Korumburra didn’t allow the Cougars to settle, claiming regular wickets to reduce the visitors to 5/45, with the telling blow being the dismissal of Darshana by Bryce Riddell who finished with three wickets.

While the total rose to 71 before further loss, two wickets fell on that score.

FOSTER’S decision to bowl first at home seemed set to reap the Tigers a win when visitor OMK was reduced to 8/110 off its 40 overs.

However, the Diggers bowlers responded in impressive fashion to engineer a 22-run win for their side.

OMK president Russ White finished with 4/16 from his full quota of medium pace overs while teammate Michael Whiteside’s accurate pace bowling devastated the Foster top order as he reaped 3/4 from his five overs.

Number three batsman Jake Chaseling top scored for the Tigers with 21.

Andrew Sorensen was best with the willow for victorious OMK making 30.

Shaun Chaseling set the standard with the ball for Foster, taking 2/7 at under a run per over.

Phillip Island can’t contain Nerrena
WHILE Phillip Island made a decent 7/135 after electing to bat at home, Nerrena calmly knocked off the total with three overs and seven wickets in hand.

However, that eventually comfortable reply got off to a rocky start when Nerrena opener Ashley Harrison succumbed for a golden duck off the bowling of Matthew Parsons (1/17).

Brian Gannon (48) and Raph Jefferis, unbeaten on 43, ensured there was no way into the game for the Sharks.

Earlier, Peter Cleary’s not out 40 off 32 balls helped give Phillip Island’s bowlers a total they could hope to defend but only three broke through, capturing a wicket each.

Nerrena’s Patrick Johnston was the game’s only multiple wicket taker with 2/37 but the miserliness of teammates Daniel Grigg (0/11) and Cameron Baudinette (1/5) off a combined 16 overs ensured Phillip Island’s score was kept in check.

Kilcunda-Bass skittles home team Glen Alvie
GLEN Alvie failed to back up its decision to bat on its home turf, being despatched for just 53 runs by a ruthless Kilcunda-Bass attack.

Nathan Thatcher fought hard for a score of 21, being Glen Alvie’s only batsman to reach double figures.

Shaun Tapscott (3/21) inflicted substantial damage early with the ball for Kilcunda Bass, with teammates Ben Rookes (3/19) and Rohan Duff (3/2) joining the party.

Despite having little to defend, Glen Alvie’s bowlers showed tenacity to reduce Kilcunda-Bass to 3/8, but the Sharks cobbled together the remaining runs required while losing just one further wicket.

Lachlan McRae gave Glen Alvie a glimmer of hope, snavelling three early wickets and finishing with 3/16 off his full allotment.

Wonthaggi Club clubs Korumburra
KORUMBURRA sent Wonthaggi Club in, with Club scoring at a solid rate of 4.25 per over to post 6/170, a score that proved 97 runs too many for the Cobras to reach.

While Luke Anstey’s 41 not out was the winning side’s highest score, Justin Licis (35) and Chris Fraser (28 not out) were other solid contributors for Club.

Korumburra’s Shaun McKinnon made his skipper’s decision to bowl look good early, dismissing William Speed for just three and bowling his opening partner Jack Sheerin for 21.

McKinnon’s 2/18 was edged out as the pick of Korumburra’s figures by teammate Scott Head (2/17), while skipper Darren Scott finished with 2/25.

Nobody could really get going when Korumburra batted, with skipper Scott’s 16 the biggest score.

Anstey’s already good day for Wonthaggi got better as he claimed 4/24, while

Lucas McRae snavelled 4/17, the pair’s commanding 16 over combined effort ensuring the Cobras couldn’t challenge Club’s score.
