Junior cricketers gear up for competitive finals

WITH the home and away season completed, Leongatha and District Cricket Association is now set for a great junior finals series, starting Sunday, March 3, at 10am.

UNDER 17

Imperials v Town at Leongatha Rec.

Phillip Island v Inverloch at Wonthaggi Turf.

The all-Leongatha game is an intriguing battle.

One win each against each other during the season, the Imps have been the pacesetters all season with Aydan Williams leading a formidable bowling attack, including U17 leading wicket taker Archie Casey.

The Imps have proven hard to post a decent score against, whilst their batting is led by Clayton Quaife and Zavier Lamers at the top with plenty of allrounders, they bat deep.

Town should be on a high after its thrilling win against Nerrena/KL/RSL to qualify for the finals.

Rhett Hume leads the attack, and with Fletcher McLennan and Lou Read, they also have plenty of firepower with the ball. Ethan Smith and Archie Fixter will be important at the top of the batting order for Town.

The Island and Inverloch have been the dominant junior sides in recent seasons playing some great finals.

This will be no different, left arm new ball pair George McCausland and Tim Niven are formidable and Invy will need a big innings from U17 leading run scorer Riley Harris to negate them, Jesse Dugard has had a great season with bat and ball for Invy and looms as a key player.

Young Cooper Newman’s leg spin will also be a handful on a Wonthaggi pitch that suits spin.

UNDER 15

Phillip Island v Korumburra at Newhaven

Glen Alvie v Nerrena/MDU at Glen Alvie

Phillip Island set the pace in the U15s all season whilst Korumburra have come from the clouds to make fourth spot.

Both teams have plenty of talent.

Phillip Island with all rounders Jobe and Archie Williams lead the way.

The Burra have big Levi Gooch, and he will play a big role with bat and ball.

Tyler Dole was a late starter due to injury but his form in recent weeks has been very good, making runs and getting wickets. This has the making of a great game of cricket.

Nerrena/MDU will be looking for a big reversal from their recent clash with Glen Alvie.

Eamon Berryman has been in great form all season with the bat whilst Cole Munday and Fin Stechway have been consistent wicket takers.

Glen Alvie is a formidable team with Jack Brown and Harvey Smith leading the way with the bat.

Archie Luke is the leading wicket taker this season and shows lots of promise with ball in hand.

Lauren Sinclair has had a great season consistently taking wickets for the Alvie.

Good luck to all the teams competing.
