A WHOPPING 158 run-haul resulted in an incredible premiership win for Kilcunda-Bass on the weekend.

In the battle of the Sharks, Kilcunda-Bass went head-to-head with Phillip Island at the Outtrim Recreation Reserve, winning the toss and deciding to bat first.

Man of the match Steven Oates opened the batting with Kevin McLean and was there to stay, recording 158 not out to ensure Kilcunda-Bass would win the flag.

Joel Dickson also gave an impressive performance with 52 runs and captain Paul Cornelis added 38 runs.

For Phillip Island, Peter Francis was the top bowler, taking 2/72.

Wickets were also taken by Peter Cleary and captain Michael Cleary.

Kilcunda-Bass set itself up very well heading into day two with a final score of 5/317.

The target was intimidating, and Phillip Island was unable to gain the momentum necessary to challenge Kilcunda-Bass.

The opening partnership of Gavin Excell and David Fusinato each put 17 runs on the scoreboard.

Francis and Michael Cleary made a good attempt to regain favour for Phillip Island with 32 and 54 runs respectively.

Deane Mani rounded out the innings with 16 not out, but ultimately Kilcunda-Bass had the match won.

The Kilcunda-Bass bowlers kept the pressure on, making their way through Phillip Island’s batting order.

McLean claimed Kilcunda-Bass’ bowling honours, taking 4/43.

Shaun Tapscott and Andrew Blackney also performed well, taking two wickets each.

Oates continued his form from the previous day, contributing to the fielding efforts and taking two catches.

Phillip Island was bowled out after 54 overs with a score of 10/161.
