B Grade, Division 1

IN a top of the table clash, first placed Inverloch went head-to-head with second placed Phillip Island on Saturday.

Phillip Island travelled to Inverloch’s Thompson Reserve to compete in the first day of the B1 two-day match.

The home side won the toss and went into bat first.

The partnership of Riley Harris and captain Brett Debono opened well, making 38 and 21 runs respectively.

Harris was bowled by Phillip Island captain Kurt Lane and a catch from Timothy McNiven sidelined Debono.

Further down the batting order, Andot Mankhong matched Harris’ top score, contributing 38 runs before he was caught by Henry Peppard.

Lane and Andrew Tolley produced Phillip Island’s best bowling figures, taking 3/27 and 3/10 respectively.

Jobe Williams was also a multiple wicket taker.

Inverloch finished off its innings and Phillip Island went into bat, eyeing off Inverloch’s 10/173 target.

Phillip Island faced six overs and is sitting on 0/19 heading into this Saturday.

Oliver Duggan hit four runs and Sarith Angelo contributed 15 runs to the Sharks tally. 

Dole stars for the Cobras

A MASSIVE 135 run effort from Korumburra’s Shane Dole has the Cobras sitting comfortably against Leongatha Town after Saturday’s B1 match.

The first day of the two-day match was played at Leongatha’s Scorpion Park.

Korumburra won the toss and chose to step up to the wicket first.

The Cobras seemed to be in trouble early, with Cory Arnold, Jacob Wrigley and Matthew Allen dismissed before making double digits.

Town’s Fletcher McLennan’s early work on the field was making it difficult for Korumburra to make an impact on the scoreboard.

Dole was fourth in the batting order and kept the Cobras well and truly in the match.

He hit his 135 runs before he was dismissed by a catch from Levi Hickey.

Mathew Olden finished off the innings with 34 runs.

Town captain Luke Ashton was the top bowler, taking 3/24.

Korumburra will be defending 10/247 this Saturday. 

Koony boosted by Hughes’ haul 

SAM Hughes contributed an impressive 108 runs to Koonwarra L/RSL’s tally on Saturday.

Playing at the Leongatha velodrome, OMK won the toss and sent the Cougars into bat first.

Opening batsman Michael Thomas hit 37 runs before he was bowled by Ben Maguire.

Hughes, batting at number 4, hit 13 fours and two sixes before he was caught by Adam Busana.

Paris Buckley finished off the innings with 27 not out.

OMK’s Nick Wylie tried to slow the Cougar’s run, taking 4/60.

Koonwarra L/RSL played out its 70 overs and set a target of 7/237 for OMK this Saturday. 

MDU hassle the Imps 

THE Imperials are in danger coming into this Saturday with MDU threatening to pass its final score.

The Imps won the toss on the weekend and chose to bat on the first day of the two-day match.

Momentum was gathered gradually, with captain Kristian Gray top scoring with 23 runs midway through the batting order.

Campbell Reid and Clint Honeysett each made 15 runs.

MDU bowler Clayton Fisher demonstrated his prowess, taking 4/30.

Mike Olden also gave a strong performance as he claimed 3/23.

The Imps were bowled out with a score of 10/115.

MDU opened its account and faced 28 overs.

Opening batsman Olden was 50 not out at stumps.

Imps bowler James Forrester fought hard to slow MDU’s run, taking 3/4, including the dismissal of Jai Bright for a golden duck.

MDU is currently on 4/78 and will continue its innings this Saturday. 

B Grade, Division 2

Checkley dominates 

SCOTT Checkley’s monstrous 142 run effort has Nerrena sitting comfortably ahead of Wonthaggi Club’s innings this Saturday.

Nerrena travelled to Wonthaggi’s McMahon Reserve and were sent into bowl first by the home side.

Checkley hit 23 boundaries including two sixes and was finally stopped by Club bowler Sam Liddle.

Cameron Baudinette kept the momentum going with 52 runs to be not out at the end of the innings.

Liddle was Club’s star bowler on the day, taking 3/75.

Chris Fraser also claimed two wickets.

Nerrena played out its 70 overs, resulting in a final tally of 6/262.

Glen Alvie show competitive edge

A STRONG start from captain Steve Smith saw Glen Alvie hold its nerve against Foster on Saturday.

Playing away at Foster, Glen Alvie won the toss and chose to bat first.

Smith opened the batting for Glen Alvie and hit 69 runs before he was dismissed LBW.

Later in the innings, Darcy Hale contributed a further 51 runs to the scoreboard.

Nathan Thatcher and Albert Russell’s 31 and 30 runs respectively pushed Glen Alvie to the respectable score of 10/255.

Four wickets were taken by a private player, with Andrew Pattie and Brad Cripps also claiming multiple wickets for Foster.

Foster opened its innings and played 13 overs.

Opening batsman Brett Gay made 12 runs before his wicket fell to Russell.

Brandon Busuttil and Tim Garvey made two and eight runs respectively and were not out at stumps.

Foster will continue its innings this Saturday. 

Sharks show no mercy 

PHILLIP Island will be seeking an outright win against Korumburra this Saturday.

Playing at the Rhyll Cricket Ground, Korumburra made the decision to bat first.

Opening batsman Caleb Turton was dismissed for a duck, which allowed Darren Scott to step up.

Scott kept the hopes alive for Korumburra, hitting 41 runs before he was caught by Tarryn Allan.

Timothy Morrison was the only other batsman to make double figures, contributing 10 runs.

Phillip Island bowlers David Womersley, Archie Williams and Tony Hornsby claimed two wickets each.

Korumburra played 40 overs, resulting in a score of 9/81.

Phillip Island opened its innings and stormed passed Korumburra’s total in a consistent effort from the top of the order.

Opening batsman John Manning made 21 runs before he was caught by Patrick Beadel.

This was followed by Tharidu Asurumuni’s 56 runs, Hornsby’s 56 runs and Daniel McCausland’s 58 runs.

Hornsby and McCausland were not out at stumps.

Wickets were taken by Beadel and Glen Barrett.

Phillip Island played 30 overs and made 2/196.
