Lang Lang proves too strong in senior clash

POOWONG welcomed Lang Lang players and supporters Saturday – a big crowd in attendance. Good to see families supporting local football.

The Sponsors and Past Players lunch with guest speaker Dustin Fletcher a well-known Bomber was a success. The club giving something back to our valuable sponsors. Well done to all involved in the day.

Congratulations to Jake Lewis for his 200 club games and Georgia Chiavaroli for her 200 senior netball games, great commitment to the club.

Conditions were great for football, the result was two wins each in football and three wins each in netball, all games were played in good spirit and umpiring was good, great to see the umpires after the game.

The Poowong Fourths winning 6.6.42 to 2.1.13, the U/18s winning 9.4 58 to 8.9.57 defeating the ladder leaders, fourths are second, thirds are fourth, great efforts, The reserves are struggling on the scoreboard but the reserves had extra players on Saturday, no thirds and fourth needed, the tide will turn.

The senior side were forced to make two changes coming in Joel Norton and Connor Ives out Mitch van’t Hof (ankle)and Micah Williames (corky) two of their most experienced
players hopefully both back next week with another couple of players as well. There is some great football talent in the senior ranks, players just need a bit of confidence in their game and their teammates and also to lift their concentration to get to the next level.

Poowong kicked to the New Estate end but Lang Lang were first on the board and never let up adding 9.6.60 with Poowong failing to hit the board, Lang Lang not allowing Poowong to get into the game.

The second quarter was much like the first with Lang Lang players full of confidence, Poowong had chances, Mitch Molloy working hard broke the ice for Poowong with a great goal.

Poowong were letting themselves down with dropped marks when in the position to score, and this even led to a Lang Lang goal.

Half time Lang Lang 17.10.112 to Poowong 1.0.6.

The third quarter started with the Poowong boys lifting after some stern words, they were more committed and added the first goal thanks to Zac Gray who was playing his heart out, Poowong had the ball up forward, again dropped marks and some poor decision making let them down.

The defence was working hard keeping Lang Lang to 2.4 for the quarter.

Three quarter Time Lang Lang 19.17 131 to Poowong 2.0.12

In the last quarter Poowong kept Lang Lang to 5.3 while Poowong’s Josh Hall kicked his first goal in senior footy in his second game. Lang Lang boys played some good football and will play a part in the finals.

This Saturday we welcome Nilma Darnum in all grades, looking forward to some even games. The seniors hopefully will have a couple back, players be positive, work hard at training and show us your skills. Thanks to all the volunteers, canteen workers, medical staff your support is invaluable for the club.
