LDCA juniors dominate the pitch against Sale-Maffra

THE LDCA Under 13s travelled to Sale College to play Sale-Maffra on a synthetic pitch while all games on turf involving Gippsland teams were cancelled.

This Under 13 squad is a talented group of junior cricketers coached by Brett Debono (Inverloch).

Their victory by 10 runs over Sale-Maffra was something many teams before them have been unable to achieve.

There are a lot of good juniors coming through the Leongatha junior ranks under the Chairmanship of Scott Checkley and his coaching panel.

The league now has representative teams in Under 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s, 18s and junior girls.

A number of junior cricketers have been selected in Gippsland Representative Teams and will be going to Melbourne to play State Championships shortly.

Keep an eye on the LDCA Facebook page to follow junior cricket.

Leongatha won the toss and chose to bat with Hudson Guymer (Nerrena) and Evan Belvedere (Korumburra) opening the batting, but fell cheaply Hudson 0 and Evan 2.
Cooper Newman (Inverloch) was joined by Eamon Berryman (Nerrena) after a solid stand Eamon was dismissed for six at 24.

Ty Debono (Inverloch) joined Cooper and the two Inverloch boys added 62 before Cooper was run out for a solid 34 runs at 86.

Jobe Williams (Phillip Island) joined Ty and they added 25 runs when Ty was caught for a well compiled 42 (4 fours) Jobe 8 and Archie Williams (Phillip Island) 1 batted out the 40 overs, with the score at 5 for 116 a good competitive score.

After the break Leongatha bowlers Jobe Williams and Ty Debono took the new ball, both bowled well, Hudson Guymer and Jackson Allan (Phillip Island) replaced the openers, but it was Archie Williams and George Edwards (Korumburra) who broke open SMCA batting with wickets at 41 and 42 and a run out by (Cole Munday (MDU) had SMCA 3 for 49.

SMCA took the score to 68 when Cole Munday broke through quickly, followed by a caught and bowled by Cooper Newman a very talented spinner at 69 the game was at the crossroads.

At 79 Cooper struck again after a catch and when Brydon Marshall (Phillip Island) bowled Grant for 4 SMCA were 7 for 85.

When Hudson Guymer run out Leneham for 4 at 89 Leongatha had victory in sight.

Ty Debono and Jobe Williams cleaned up the tail SMCA all out 106.

Wicket takers were Cooper Newman 2 for 5, Jobe Williams 1 for 12, Ty Debono 1 for 14, Archie Williams 1 for 9, George Edwards 1 for 19, Cole Munday 1 for 12 and Byron Marshall 1 for 13.

Overall it was a great bowling effort to keep SMCA down to 106 off 36.5 Overs.

Next game is December 4, at East Campus Leongatha.
