A Grade, Division 1
HAVING chosen to bat first on opposition turf, Nerrena set a strong 2/248, Leongatha Town making a solid reply but falling 27 runs short when bowled out for 221, Thomas Cameron’s unbeaten score of 101 laying the foundation for the Red Caps’ victory.
The Nerrena skipper scored at just over a run a ball, striking seven boundaries and five sixes.
Mitch Clark’s undefeated 62 came at almost a run a ball.
While both Nerrena openers were ultimately run out, Jack Curtis had already made a rapid 46, Loc Roberts compiling a more sedate 24.
Darcy Berryman snavelled five wickets for Nerrena, inflicting significant damage on the Leongatha Town middle order, with Archie Gannon and Timothy Wightman the other multiple wicket takers with a couple each.
Earlier, the Scorpions’ bowling attack was held wicketless, Madura Madusanka impressing with an economical 22 runs off his eight overs.
Wonthaggi Club quick to knock off Phillip Island total
Skipper Joel Brann blasted 60 off just 32 balls, clearing the boundary eight times, with just one four, guiding Wonthaggi Club to a seven-wicket win over Phillip Island.
After choosing to bat, the Sharks registered what appeared to be a reasonably competitive 9/146 off the maximum 40 overs, but Club needed just over 25 overs to breeze past the target.
Openers Mitch Thomas (34) and Alexander Geyer with a patient unbeaten 31 helped Wonthaggi ensure the chase was a smooth one.
George McCausland (1/41) and Thomas Niven (1/25) were the only bowlers to capture wickets for the Sharks, the other being a run out.
James Sheerin was the game’s only multiple wicket-taker, rattling Phillip Island’s middle and lower order with 3/9 off eight tidy overs.
Ryan Thomas (1/16 off four overs), Heath Dobbie (1/25 off eight overs) and Mark McCall (1/38 from seven overs) each made a top order breakthrough for Club, Brann taking a tidy 1/27 off his eight overs, helping prevent any Phillip Island batsmen from notching a big score despite the top three getting solid starts.

Max Royal, batting at number nine, top-scored for the Sharks with 34 not out, edging out opener Lachlan Cleeland who made 30.
Allround performance from skipper Spicer in Korumburra win
AN UNBEATEN 74 at a good clip and figures of 4/23 off just a couple of balls short of eight overs from captain Ben Spicer propelled Korumburra to a 64-run victory over host Imperials.
Imperials put the Cobras in, Korumburra batting positively to finish with a run rate of five per over.
Rumesh Rangana (33) was next best behind Spicer, but everyone who got a bat contributed, while Mustafa Nader’s 2/26 off eight overs was another impressive haul for the Korumburra bowlers.
Tim Sauvarin performed strongest with the ball for Imperials, taking 2/20 in eight tidy overs at just 2.5 an over, his vice-captain Lachie Wright the other multiple wicket taker for Imps with 2/43.
Aydan Williams was the standout batsman for Imperials, making 62 from 90 balls but was run out by the combined efforts of Nader and Rangana, Williams the only of the side’s top four to get going with the willow.
OMK defends low total against Cougars
JUST like the West Indies bowlers of the 1980s who seemed able to defend almost any target, OMK’s attack made its batting lineup’s effort count, skittling Koonwarra Leongatha RSL for just 59 as the Cougars chased a modest victory target of 125.
After choosing to bat, the top four Diggers all got starts but couldn’t go on with it, captain Koby Brann doing best with 36 off 52 balls.
With half the OMK batting lineup falling short of double figures, the side was dismissed early in the 39th over, appearing not to have enough runs on the board.
All six bowlers contributed strongly for the Cougars, highlighted by two-wicket hauls to Isuru Darshana (2.16 per over), James Rushton (3.2 per over) and Azhar Mehmood (3.62 per over)
However, Darshana was the only Koonwarra Leongatha RSL batsman to get going, making 18, none of his teammates reaching double figures, the side blasted out in just 16 overs, OMK using only three bowlers.
Ryan Williams snavelled an extraordinary 4/5 off two overs to dispatch the Cougars’ bottom order, while Travis Pickering (3/36 off eight overs) and Peter Dell (3/14 off six overs) also enjoyed a big day with the ball.
