THE Nerrena underdogs proved to be a challenge for Wonthaggi Club on Saturday.
Playing at Wonthaggi’s McMahon Reserve, the away team won the toss and chose to bat first.
Zack Trease opened well for Nerrena, putting 59 runs on the scoreboard before he was run out.
Kade Berryman and Shaun Sparks also performed well, adding 35 and 28 runs respectively.
Club bowler Heath Dobbie ensured it wasn’t an easy run for Nerrena, claiming 4/65.
Other wickets were shared between Ryan Birkett, Sean Roche and Sam Liddle.
Nerrena ended its innings with a score of 10/219.
Club opened its account and faced 11 overs.
David Britt and Roche opened the batting for Club, making 14 and eight runs respectively.
Both were not out at stumps and will continue their run this weekend.
MDU keeps its eye on the prize
MDU will be looking to chase down Glen Alvie’s score of 10/193 this weekend.
Going head-to-head at the Meeniyan Recreation Reserve, Glen Alvie chose to bat first.
The opening partnership of Matthew Donohue and Scott Peatling performed well.
Donohue top scored with 66 runs and Peatling contributed 27 runs.
Notable batting figures were also recorded by vice captain Nathan Findlay and Matthew Dakin, with 26 and 21 runs respectively.
MDU’s Mitch McGrath kept Glen Alvie’s final tally within reach, claiming 6/72.
Sam Bright also had a good day on the field, taking 3/38.
MDU will have its opportunity to bat this Saturday.
Cougars challenge Nyora




TOP of the table Nyora was rattled by fourth placed Koonwarra L/RSL on Saturday.
The Cougars sent Nyora in to bat first and set the tone of the match.
Captain Henry Dolphin opened the batting for Nyora and amassed 30 runs.
Aaron Kaddatz later added 63 runs before he was stumped by captain James Ruston.
Jake Hackett accumulated 21 runs, but the rest of the batting order was quietened by a strong Koonwarra fielding side.
Koonwarra L/RSL’s top bowler was Isuru Darshana, taking 3/27.
Jason Kennedy also claimed two wickets.
Nyora ended its innings with 10/182.
Koonwarra L/RSL will be aiming for this total this weekend.
The Cougars had the opportunity to launch its innings and played 6.5 overs before stumps.
Matt Cooke and Rushton opened the batting, with Rushton making 11 runs.
Neither were out at the end of the day.
Koonwarra L/RSL is sitting on 0/15.
Staley claims six
ALTHOUGH Kilcunda-Bass started strong, six wickets from Foster bowler Jake Staley stifled the Sharks’ run on Saturday.
Travelling to Bass, Foster won the toss and chose to bowl.
Opening batsmen Cameron Davidson and Todd Smith showed Kilcunda-Bass’ competitive side, adding 53 and 22 runs respectively.
Aaron Conron later added 21 runs, but Kilcunda-Bass struggled through the rest of the innings.
Staley dominated the bowling with Josh Toner also taking two wickets.
Kilcunda-Bass finished its innings with 10/132.
Foster will go in to bat this weekend.
