A Grade, Division 2

LADDER leader Nyora recorded another win after coming up against MDU at Meeniyan on Saturday.

MDU won the toss and elected to bat first.

Mitch McGrath opened for the home side and added 59 runs to the account before he was run out by Jake Henry.

Captain Joel Sinclair and Mitchell Hoober were listed third and fourth in the order and contributed 29 and 28 respectively.

Nyora bowler Aidan Simmons kept MDU’s score within reach by taking 3/18.

MDU finished off its 40 overs with 7/144.

Nyora captain Henry Dolphin led his team towards the win with 48 runs before a catch by Troy Sinclair sent him to the sidelines.

Aaron Kraddatz later top scored with 49 runs before another catch from Sinclair dismissed him.

Wicket taking was shared between Sam Bright, McGrath and Zak Bright.

Nyora passed MDU with three overs remaining with the score at 6/146.

Tigers rattle Club 

FOSTER bowler Brad Coates made a statement against Wonthaggi Club when he snared opening batsman David Britt lbw for a golden duck.

Coates went on to claim 3/26, including the dismissal of the other opening batsman Stewart Beaumont at 3/12 during a crucial spell for the Tigers.

Jayden Burns and Luke McGuirk brought Club back when they added 29 and 27 respectively.

Jack Weston and Harvey Griggs were multiple wicket takers for Foster.

Club took to the field needing to defend 9/127 with oster having a slow but steady innings.

The opening of partnership of Jack Gay 16 and captain Jake Best 17 set the scene with 38 and with Weston adding 18 they were on their way until Mitchell Allott delivered the knockout blow with the top score of 30 not out.

Club kept the game competitive with multiple wickets falling to Heath Dobbie, Jai Williamson and Sean Roche but Foster ultimately claimed the win with 7/131. 

Sharks outclass the Red Caps 

KILCUNDA-Bass put in a strong performance against Nerrena at the Bass Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

The home team won the toss and batted first, setting the brisk pace for the day.

Opening batsman Ash Larcombe retired not out with 10 runs, afterwhich the Sharks produced an onslaught of runs.

Aaron Conron made 33 before he was bowled by Mitchell Croatto at 1/58, Matthew Grayson recorded 64 runs before he was run out at 2/192, and co-captain Jaydan Tregear ensured victory with an impressive 74 run haul off 87 deliveries.

Ultimately, he was bowled lbw by Zak Trease at 4/203.

Trease was Nerrena’s top bowler, claiming 2/39.

Kilcunda-Bass’ 5/221 was too big of an ask for the Red Caps.

Trease continued his form with a top score of 34 runs, but the team could not match the momentum. 

Sharks co-captain Ryley Duff put the pressure on Nerrena, taking 3/26.

Chris Peckett also claimed multiple wickets.

Nerrena finished off its 40 overs with 9/140. 

Glen Alvie overpowered by Koony bowlers 

GLEN Alvie was outdone by the bowling prowess of Koonwarra L/RSL on Saturday.

Battled out on the Butch West turf in Wonthaggi, the Cougars won the toss and chose to put Glen Alvie through its paces first.

Opening batsman Matthew Donohue started strong with 41 runs before he was sidelined by Azhar Mehmood. 

Vice captain Ben McRae contributed 30 runs to the tally.

However, a series of ducks and golden ducks stunted Glen Alvie’s run.

Koonwarra L/RSL bowlers Nick Arnup and Mehmood kept the game within their grasp, claiming 3/16 and 3/20 respectively.

Matt Cooke also claimed multiple wickets.

Glen Alvie ended its inning with 10/118.

A catch from Andrew Dakin dismissed opening batsman Cooke at 1/20, but it didn’t take long for the Cougars to make up the ground.

Opening batsman Amad Mujtaba hit 32 runs and Mehmood continued his top performance with 45 not out. Glen Alvie bowler Zack Sholz took 2/22.

The game went to the Cougars with a total of 3/119.
