B Grade, Division 1
IT was a big weekend for OMK, with the Diggers taking home both B Grade flags in hard fought clashes with Phillip Island.
The B1 premiership was played at the Bass Recreation Reserve, where putting runs on the board proved to be a difficult task.
OMK and Phillip Island had won a game each during the season, so both teams went into the match ready for a tough contest.
Phillip Island won the toss and chose to send OMK into bat first.
OMK did what it could against the onslaught from the Phillip Island bowlers, led by Timothy Niven who claimed 4/25.
Coming in at number five, Jaxon Hayes managed the top score of 36 runs before a catch from Max Arceo dismissed him.
Hayes’ efforts proved to be a turning point for the Diggers.
David Creed made 20 runs, and Robert Quaife and Barry Wyatt later made 15 runs each.

For Phillip Island, Heath Womersley and captain Kurt Lane were also multiple wicket takers, taking 3/43 and 2/32 respectively.
OMK were bowled out 10/130, unsure whether it had done enough to win.
On Sunday, Wyatt led the way for OMK, delivering an exceptional bowling performance that would dash Phillip Island’s hopes.
Wyatt made his way through Phillip Island batting order, taking 5/42.
He was backed by captain Kris Kerr, who also smothered Phillip Island’s attempts by taking 4/28.
Phillip Island started well with opening batsman Heath Womersley making 22 runs, followed by Lane who top scored with 23.
However, the pressures from OMK were too much to overcome and Phillip Island was bowled out 10/98.
“It was a tough game but we are happy with the result,” club president Russ White said.
“It’s been a great season with all three of our sides making the finals and coming away with two flags.”
