KILCUNDA BASS managed to hang on to the win in a crucial game against Koo Wee Rup.

It was a battle between sixth and seventh, and Kilcunda Bass has ended up fifth at the end of round eight, heading into a bye next week.

The match was played at the Bass Recreation Reserve in good conditions and in front of a big crowd.

A tough first quarter saw the Panthers trailing by six points at the first siren.

Neither side was able to really break the game open, and some early skill errors from the Panthers put the home side on the back foot.

The second quarter saw similar congested play, with both sides working hard to find their feet.

It took some half time adjustments to see some changes in the game.

Kilcunda Bass made a few positional changes in the third quarter and managed to take control of the game.

Brody Connelly kicked three goals in five minutes, singlehandedly breaking the game open.

It was the break Kilcunda Bass needed, as the Panthers kicked five goals for the quarter to Koo Wee Rup’s one.

Jack Soroczynski and Nathan Foote led a cleaner attack through the midfield, and Angus McGillivray – who had been playing down back – successfully fulfilled some ruck duties.

The third quarter won the game for the Panthers, with high pressure play returning in the fourth quarter.

Kilcunda Bass suffered an injury early, which made an impact.

A couple of good goals from Koo Wee Rup added to the intensity, but Kilcunda Bass did just enough to earn the four points.

Kilcunda Bass will be having a freshen up next week during its bye, before returning for round 10 to take on Tooradin-Dalmore at home.

This will be another tough competition against a top side, and Kilcunda Bass is looking forward to finding out where it sits in the scheme of the league.
