Under 14 Red

The Under 14 reds travelled to Korumburra this week and were greeted with perfect conditions.

The ball was bounced and Bowie Edwards was straight back to getting in and under and winning the hard ball.

The goals came quick and fast for the Reds as Xavier Holmes asserted dominance with two early goals.

Sonny Williams, Denver Preddice-Firth, Will Patton and Flynn Doig added a goal each to command a solid lead.

Phillip Island lost structure in the second quarter and took shots that probably should have been passed off to teammates in better positions, which coach Damien Holmes highlighted at halftime.

Roy and Harvey Patterson hit every contest hard, with Harvey rewarded with a goal for his efforts.

Zane Larsson continued his great form and was unstoppable around the ground.

Korumburra lifted its intensity in the third quarter, the Bulldogs’ avenue to goal drying up somewhat, but goals from Jeddah Richards, Denver Preddice-Firth and Xavier Holmes got Phillip Island back on track.

The last quarter was a better team effort by the Bulldogs, with the handball receives well up and the boys running hard.

Xavier Homes Kicked another two to take his tally to five goals for the day. Will Patton joined the party, kicking his third for the day and keeping goal umpire Joel Goodall busy.

Bowie Edwards kicked a goal on the siren to end the game.

Awards – Flynn Doig, Sonny Williams, Xavier Holmes, Will Patton

Goals – Xavier Holmes 5, Will Patton 3, Zane Larsson 3, Denver Preddice-Firth 2 Flynn Doig 1, Harvey Patterson 1, Jeddah Richards 1

Under 16 Girls

The Phillip Island Under 16 girls were pumped this week after their strong win in round 1.

They knew it was going to be a tough game as Warragul also started its season strongly.

The Island once again fielded strong numbers and welcomed back to the team this week Brinkley Niccolaci and Lily ‘Elbow’ Bow.

The first quarter saw Warragul getaway to a strong start with a couple of early goals. The Island girls seemed a little flat, with their defence tested numerous times.

Led by Tess Ricardo and well assisted by Mia Ward they repelled numerous attacks throughout the quarter.

The girls stepped up in the second quarter lifting their tackle rate and putting pressure on Warragul at every opportunity.

Gemma Fischer and Lily O’Loughlin worked hard around the stoppages and Ruby Kent-Ford rucked solidly throughout the game.

Although the Island didn’t score, it held Warragul to one goal in the quarter.

But as the game progressed the Island’s pressure started to drop away, and Warragul hit the scoreboard numerous times.

Sadie Davie presented well up forward, while Phoenix Stedman and Jayla Loughridge gave constant efforts.

This was a tough game for the girls but set the standard for the Island girls to aim for next time they meet.

Thanks to Justin Tilley for umpiring.

Under 10 Blue

Phillip Island U10 Blue v Leongatha at The Kennel

The U10 Blue Bulldogs started Sunday’s game with a rousing Captain’s speech by Harper Dykes, who spoke about playing hard, celebrating with each other and having fun with your mates, and it certainly got the team fired up!

The first quarter started hot with both teams playing the ball hard and trying their best to get an early edge.

The Bulldogs ran hard and got an early reward with a great team goal starting in the middle of the ground and being worked down to the forward line where Max Svanosio slotted a great goal.

The second quarter started much like the first with the PI Bulldogs running hard for each other early and working the ball around with some clean disposals.

The quarter was best known for Lachie Dallinger’s Goal of the Day which included an amazing spin out of a tackle, a running bounce and a goal from 25 metres out!

After halftime, the Bulldogs’ confidence was running high, which led to some great team football.

Leongatha took its game to another level in this quarter, which put the Bulldogs’ backline under pressure, with the Parrots getting a reward for their efforts in this quarter with a great team goal.

The Bulldogs finished the quarter strong with Kensani Gardiner slotting two great goals whilst on the run.

The Bulldogs went into the last quarter fired up to finish the game strong and controlled most of the ball, notably Billy Kimber, Lachie Dallinger and Harper Dykes dominating the centre clearances to keep the ball up Phillip Island’s end of the ground.

This quarter saw first-game player Ruben Kimber play a big role in getting the ball deep into the Bulldogs’ forward line.

The Quarter was capped off with Judd Lock snagging three goals including a ripper spin out of tackle, fend-off, dancing around three players and snapping truly from 20 metres out.

The Bulldogs played an amazing team game, running hard for each other all day.

ROUND 2 saw the Pups play Leongatha on home turf with Max Robinson as Captain.

Max pumped up his team with his speech out on the ground, saying to have fun and let’s go boys.

First quarter Jobe Lock kicked the first two goals to come out firing, then a goal came from Lenny Cooper.

Jackson Rodakis and Ollie Hellmuth-Pask had great movement around the ball with impressive execution.

Quarter break PI 19 - Leon 7.

The second quarter saw Zeb Findlay having a go in the ruck with the dynamic Kash Scheibel running hard and the pups putting in a good, solid quarter.

Remi Monet and Dash Janson held their space and worked hard.

Lenny Cooper took fantastic marks in the back line.

Jackson Rodakis got his first goal for the season.

Halftime score PI 25 - Leongatha 27.

The first goal of the third quarter went to the opposition, Leongatha increasing its lead to seven points.

Rylan Lucas was the marking target, and Cody Naismith had great bodywork.

Captain Max Robinson moved around finding space really well.

The Blues were unlucky to only score one behind for the quarter.

During the fourth quarter the back line was fantastic with Otis Joyner, Pheonix Durdin and Zaine Liddle working hard.

Jackson Rodakis and Louis Brodie took turns in the ruck, and a goal was scored by young gun Noah Hollings who was solid in the packs.

The way the Blues worked together and the sensational ball movement going forward was commendable.

Leongatha proved too difficult to beat, the final score being PI 32- Leongatha 45.

Coach Bianca was really proud of how the Bulldogs played.

Best: Max Ward, Lenny Cooper, Kash Scheibel, Jett Fawaz and Noah Hollings.
