PHILLIP Island was crowned T20 champion, comfortably accounting for Korumburra in the final of the knockout competition at Leongatha’s Scorpion Park on Sunday.

The Sharks chose to bat first, posting a solid 6/139.

That total was built chiefly through the work of skipper Daniel Mock who delivered an entertaining unbeaten 68 off 53 balls, and a knock of 41 from opener Lachie Cleeland also at better than a run a ball.

Evan Allaway with 2/24, Inshaka Siriwardena (2/26) led the way for Korumburra’s bowling attack.

While the 7 runs per over required for victory appeared manageable for the Cobras, the Phillip Island bowlers were quick to make a mockery of that prospect.

Such was the Sharks’ dominance with the ball, not one Korumburra batsman was allowed to reach double figures, with Allaway’s innings of 7 the best.

With the Cobras skittled for a total of just 48, there were no poor bowling figures for Phillip Island, but Tom Keily was the standout performer with 6/15 from his four overs.

Simon Kirton and Shiran Rathnayake were the other multiple wicket takers for the premiership side, evenly splitting four wickets and conceding just 18 runs between them off their combined six overs.
