The Pink Roses Day race meeting scheduled for Tuesday January 9 at Stony Creek Racecourse is unable to proceed due to Monday’s heavy rainfall, with the club making the decision on Monday afternoon.
“There have been 40mm of rain today and no signs of it stopping and some parts are underwater,” Stony Creek Racing Club CEO Adam Olszanski said.
Earlier in the afternoon he told the Sentinel-Times that the track was still safe for racing but there was a lot of water in other areas including the car parks.
A later press release from Stony Creek Racing Club, following further rain, announced the cancellation of Pink Roses Day, referring to the presence of surface water on the track, in the mounting yard and the car parks.
While Pink Roses Day won’t be rescheduled, Olszanski said the forecast is looking more favourable for the School Holidays Race Day scheduled for Thursday January 18.
