POOWONG welcomed Nyora hoping to reclaim the Demon Cup after Nyora claimed it early in the season and also welcomed the players of the 1985 Senior Premiers Football side and the 1995 A & B Premier Netballers and 1985 D Grade Netball Premier team.

The Under 18’s travelled to Catani to play Lang Lang and came away with a victory winning 8.5.53 to Lang Lang 5.7.37. The Reserves also had a win. They’ve now won two games this season, winning Saturday by five points 58.3.51 to Nyora 6,10.46, well done to all the reserves players.

The Poowong seniors welcomed Mathew Roberts and Mitch van’t Hof. Out Joel Norton and Mitch Molloy both injured, Poowong started well with Alex Henshall kicking the first of two goals for the quarter. Poowong’s pressure was good with Mitch van’t Hof, Thomas Burgess and Thomas Sherar working hard and the on-ballers Alex Henshall Zac Gray, Connor Cunningham and Micah Williames in everything. Poowong were on top early, Nyora kicking a late goal.

Nyora started the second quarter with a goal from a free kick, Poowong replied immediately from a down field free through Mathew Roberts who made sure of the goal, then with goals to Alex Henshall and Jett Blackwood. Poowong held a handy lead at halftime Poowong 5.10.40 to Nyora 2.1.13, a twenty-seven-point lead.

The third quarter was costly for Poowong with just six points to Nyora’s two goals to reduce the margin to twenty-one points Poowong 5.16.46 to Nyora 4.1.25.

Down to the last quarter in a tight contest Nyora kicked their fifth back to fifteen points, Mathew Roberts added a great goal for Poowong only to see Nyora add a goal off the ground in reply. Alex Henshall added a steadier for Poowong and when Matt Cossio goaled the win was in sight. Final scores Poowong 8.19 67 to Nyora 6.4.40, a twenty-seven-point victory and the first win of the season for Poowong.

Great day for the club with all three teams winning – senior, reserves and under 18’s not sure when that last happened, great to do it in front of the ‘85 Premiers.

Best players Micah Williames, Alex Henshall Connor Cunningham, Matt Cozzio, Jett Blackwood, and Connor Ives.

With the netballers winning all their games Poowong club had a great day also a great evening with their eighty’s night.

Off to Lang Lang next week in all grades football and netball playing, could we do it again? Remember Cozzies Powerball Thursday Night.
