A Grade, Division 1

ANOTHER awe-inspiring effort from Shiran Rathnayake resulted in another win for top of the table Phillip Island.

Coming off the back of his seven wicket haul the previous week, Rathnayake hit 102 not out against Club on Saturday.

Club challenged Phillip Island with a total of 10/197, but Rathnayake’s time at the wicket ensured the score was gettable.

Daniel Mock contributed 30 runs to Phillip Island’s total.

Club captain Joel Brann and James Sheerin tried to keep the pressure on Phillip Island, taking 2/44 and 2/66 respectively.

Phillip Island went home with the win with a final score of 6/207.

Imps get it done
THE Imperials declared an impressive win over Korumburra on Saturday.

A fairly even distribution of runs throughout the batting order resulted in a final score of 5/302.

The Cobras went into Saturday’s match with a challenge ahead.

Korumburra captain Rumesh Rangana kept pace with the Imps’ batsmen, hitting 83 runs before a catch by Timothy Sauvarin sent him back to the sideline.

Hemal Ratnayake also put up a fight, making 67 runs.

However, the rest of the batting order did not manage to break into the double digits.

The demolition of Korumburra’s batting order was at the hands of Imps bowler Lachie Wright, who took 8/99.

Wickets were also claimed by Lucas Anderson and captain Jack Ginnane.

Korumburra finished its innings with 10/188.

Town trounce Nerrena
DESPITE the bowling pressures of Nerrena, Leongatha Town enjoyed a convincing win on Saturday.

During the first day of the two-day match, Nerrena made 10/112 and would be in for a challenge against the mighty Leongatha side.

Josh Trease bowled opening batsman Ron Abeysinghe lbw for a duck – a shaky start for Town.

However, Amila Ratnaike had Town back on track, contributing 39 runs before a catch from Jaxon Checkley saw him dismissed.

Rounding out the innings, Pandukabhaya Jayasinghe hit 59 not out.

Trease and captain Mitchell Clark were Nerrena’s top bowlers, taking 3/43 and 3/17 respectively.

Town’s winning tally was 10/179.

Nerrena opened its second innings with opening batsman Hayden Funnell making 23 runs.

Clark top scored with 24 not out.

Pamuditha Geemal Rajapakshage took 2/21, with the rest of the wicket taking shared between Rhett Hume, Josh Williams and Ethan Smith.

Nerrena were at 5/80 at stumps.
