B Grade, Division 1

DESPITE a strong start from Phillip Island as it bowled out Nerrena 10/119, the Red Caps were able to flip the script and send the Sharks to third place on the ladder.

Sharks’ opening batsman Tharidu Asurumuni managed to scrape together 24 runs, but this was ultimately the top score of the day.

David Womersley contributed 19 runs midway through the innings, but Nerrena’s onslaught was too much to contend with.

Nerrena bowler Mitchell Croatto led the charge, taking 4/32, as well as taking the catch that dismissed Asurumuni.

Ryan Clark claimed three wickets and two wickets fell to William Croatto.

Phillip Island was bowled out 10/95 in the 48th over.

Nerrena launched its second innings with a slow start due to the bowling of Asurumuni and Jobe Williams.

Batting fifth in the order, Charlie Dougherty did some damage to the scoreboard with 56 not out.

Phillip Island bowler Tarryn Allan swept up the bottom of Nerrena’s batting order, claiming 4/22.

Asurumuni took three wickets and Williams claimed two.

Nerrena finished the day with a score of 9/141 and has settled into second place on the ladder.

Stingrays strike

INVERLOCH stormed its way to victory against MDU on Saturday.

The Stingrays bowled MDU out 10/175 in the first day of the two-day match and were fired up to earn the points.

David Harris and Captain Warren Stewart opened Inverloch’s account.

Harris was bowled LBW by Tyrone Zukovskis for nine runs, sending in Dylan Clark.

The partnership of Stewart and Clark made 63 and 67 respectively, until Clark was bowled by Callum McCaughan.

Leigh Cole stepped up to the crease and finished the innings off with Stewart.

Cole made 21 runs, and both he and Stewart were not out at stumps.

Inverloch won the day with a score of 2/177.

Top of the ladder for Club

WITH a score of 10/209, Wonthaggi Club managed to hold onto the win against OMK.

The third win of the season sent Club to the top of the ladder.

OMK captain Adam Busana kickstarted the innings with 24, and David Jefferies – batting third in the order – top scored with 53 runs.

Twenty-two runs were also contributed by Nicholas Auddino. 

Club bowler Heath Dobbie caused the most headaches for OMK, taking 3/36. 

Two wickets were claimed by Lucas McRae, with captain Sean Roche, Jai Williamson and Bryce Evans taking singles.

OMK fell short with a score of 9/162.

Korumburra had a bye in round seven. 

B Grade, Division 2

Nyora outplays Foster 

NYORA enjoyed an outright win against Foster on Saturday.

After bowling Foster out 10/99, Nyora led by 75 after the first innings.

Nyora continued its first innings with Jordan Knox reaching 43 runs and Ryan White hitting 52.

Knox was caught by Brandon Busuttil off the bowling of Neil Henry.

Henry also dismissed White.

Captain Lochie Row made 36 not out when Nyora opted to declare with a score of 4/174.

Foster was sent back into bat with little improvement.

Billy Davy opened and made 23 runs, which was the top score for Foster.

Brett Gay contributed a further 20 runs.

White demolished Foster’s batting order and claimed an impressive 6/32.

Sam Henry and Lincoln Brock also took out two wickets each.

Foster found itself bowled out once more with a score of 10/83.

With three overs left in it, Nyora began its second innings.

Knox was bowled for a duck by Ryan Jorgensen.

A fill in batsman and Daniel Esler made five not out.

Nyora made 1/15 and took the points.

Cougars crush Glen Alvie

KOONWARRA L/RSL claimed a win after bowling Glen Alvie out for a score of 10/76.

The Cougars had reached 1/51 by stumps during the first day.

Picking up where they left off, Nick Arnup made 15 runs and Darren Read retired not out with 23 runs.

Captain Brad Anderson later top-scored with 35 runs and was not out at the end of the match.

Vice-captain Adam Drury capped it off with 17 runs.

For Glen Alvie, Lachlan McRae, Luke Scholz and Archie Donohue claimed two wickets each.

Koonwarra/LRSL won with a score of 8/140.

Town nicks a win

LEONGATHA Town snatched a win from Kilcunda-Bass.

Kilcunda-Bass was on the ropes when it was bowled out 10/85.

However, some impressive bowling from Alan Bedford and Rohan Duff saw the dismissal of Luke Bowman, Colin Bruce, Max Carter and Davern Goss for ducks in succession, leaving the game up to anyone.

Rory Gilliatte saved it for Town, making 50 runs before he was dismissed LBW by Zac Crow.

Duff took 4/11 and Crow took 3/12 for Kilcunda-Bass.

Leongatha Town just got itself over the line with a score of 10/99. 

The Imperials had the bye.
