C Grade, Division 1

NERRENA outplayed Kilcunda-Bass at the Bass Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

The home side won the toss and chose to field first.

Shem Murphy and Cohen Harrison made an unassuming start as they made 15 and three runs respectively.

Murphy was run out by James Papworth and Harrison was bowled out by Shaun Tapscott.

However, Ben Stein and captain Gerard Murphy ran Nerrena’s campaign right to the end of the 20 overs.

They made 39 and 58 not out, resulting in a handy final score of 2/126.

Kilcunda-Bass stepped up to bat, but its opening partnership was swiftly dismissed by Nerrena bowler Joel Renden.

Batting third in the order, Robert Blackney kept hopes alive for the Sharks with 43 not out.

However, bowler Cameron Baudinette kept the run rate low as he claimed 3/18.

Renden and Daniel Grigg came away with two wickets each.

Ultimately, Kilcunda-Bass could not reach its target and produced a score of 8/86 at the end of 20 overs.

OMK outclasses Town

LEONGATHA Town and OMK went head-to-head at Scorpion Park on Friday night, with the win going to OMK.

Town chose to bat first but stumbled early when Tim Cashin was dismissed for a duck and Sakthy Vs was caught for two runs by Owen Fitzpatrick off the bowling of Russ White.

A fill-in for Town managed to produce the top score of 27, with captain Alex Aeschlimann later adding 24 runs.

OMK bowler Toby Nicholas took out the bottom of the order, producing figures of 3/11.

White and Scott Anthony Handley took two wickets each.

Town played out its 20 overs, resulting in a score of 9/99.

With a target in sight, OMK sent in Paul Fermanis and White.

Fermanis was bowled by Travis Strybosch for three runs, leaving the partnership of White and Robert Quaife to go on to make 45 and 31 runs respectively.

White was not out at the end of the innings.

Two wickets were taken out by Vs.

After 15 overs, OMK had won the game with a score of 3/103.

Burra clinches low-scoring duel

A LOW-SCORING innings from Phillip Island handed the win over to Korumburra on Saturday.

Phillip Island opened the batting, which saw Thomas Blackwell make 17 runs.

Sarith Angelo and Daniel McClausland were dismissed for a duck and a golden duck respectively before David Ivey could step up to the crease.

Ivey top scored with 21 runs before he was caught by Lukas Gallagher off the bowling of Matt Foote.

Foote had Korumburra’s best bowling figures, taking 3/10.

Shaun McKinnon, Darren Scott and Patrick Beadel claimed two wickets each.

Phillip Island played 18 overs before it was bowled out with a score of 10/59.

Korumburra also suffered a low-scoring innings but did all it needed to for a victory.

Batting fifth in the order, Beadel made the top score of 20 not out.

Thimira Senanayaka was Phillip Island’s best bowler with 2/13 and a single wicket was taken by Jackson Allan.

After just 14 overs, Korumburra had the game with a winning tally of 4/60.

Wonthaggi Club had the bye in round eight. 

C Grade, Division 2

Stewart leads Stingrays to the win 

WARREN Stewart steered Inverloch to victory by making 105 not out on Saturday.

Playing against Koonwarra L/RSL at the Koonwarra Recreation Reserve, Stewart opened the batting with Jack Rowe and refused to be moved.

Rowe made 27 runs before he was caught by Dan Isgro off the bowling of Shane Paterson.

Rowe’s dismissal sent in David Harris, who contributed 22 runs before he was also caught by Isgro, this time off the bowling of Alvis Piksons.

Callan O’Flynn finished off the innings with Stewart, making nine not out.

Stewart’s effort included 13 fours and one six.

Inverloch closed its innings with a healthy score of 2/174.

The score was beyond Koonwarra L/RSL’s reach. 

Batting third for Koonwarra L/RSL, Glenn Matthies top-scored with 45 runs before he was bowled by Jason Smith.

Steven Anderson closed the innings with 26 not out.

For Inverloch, Smith was the top bowler with 2/16.

Wickets were also taken by O’Flynn and Aedan Parker.

Koonwarra L/RSL played out its 20 overs but fell short of success with a score of 5/124.

Nyora nabs nailbiter 

NYORA and Phillip Island closed the first half of the C2 season with a nailbiter that ultimately went to Nyora.

Playing at the Nyora Recreation Reserve on Saturday, the home team won the toss and sent Phillip Island into bat first.

Opening batsman Peter Francis made 21 runs to get the ball rolling, but it was Jon Parry who kept the match competitive.

Parry made 56 not out.

Keith Maclure had Nyora’s top bowling honours, taking 2/7.

Wickets also fell to William Dixon, Tristan Dowel and William Dourley.

Phillip Island had made 5/106 at the end of the innings.

Maclure continued his form with 50 runs before he was caught by Sonny McMillan off the bowling of captain Michael Cleary.

Dixon and a fill-in player were dismissed for a duck and a golden duck respectively by Jai Kleverkamp, which cleared the way for Travis White to step in and make a handy 23 not out.

Kleverkamp was Phillip Island’s top bowler, taking 3/11.

Two wickets were claimed by Cleary.

By the time Nyora had reached its allotted 20 overs, it had crept over the line with a score of 6/107.

McGuirk’s mighty 58 downs OMK

GLEN Alvie recorded a win against OMK at the Outtrim Recreation Reserve.

Glen Alvie won the toss and sent OMK into bat.

The opening partnership of Tom Eustace and Mark Wightman worked together well, resulting in 41 and 32 runs respectively.

However, the run rate was limited thereafter.

Owen Luff had the best bowling figures for Glen Alvie, taking 2/15.

Single wickets were taken by William Simmons, Jarvis Hynes, Wayne Bridle and Charlie Andersen. 

OMK reached 6/116 at the end of its 20 overs.

Daniel McGuirk opened the batting for Glen Alvie and led the team to victory with 58 not out.

Batting fourth in the order, captain Ian Thorn added 31 runs.

Liam Maskell was OMK’s top bowler, taking 2/15.

Eustace claimed one wicket – dismissing Thorn – and ran out Simmons for a golden duck.

Glen Alvie maintained the upper hand, however, and won the game in the 19th over with 4/120.

MDU had the round eight bye.
