Road maintenance blitz coming up

THE State Government will undertake its annual maintenance blitz on the state’s roads across regional Victoria including the South Gippsland Highway.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll announced the $780 million investment which will rebuild, repair and resurface more than 1500 kilometres of roads across the regions.
Workers will spend the next eight months delivering more than 1300 individual projects across the state including the South Gippsland Highway, Western Highway, Hume Freeway, Murray Valley Highway and Hamilton Highway.
Locally, this will see:

•    13 projects in total along the South Gippsland Highway, including two major road rebuilding projects near Meeniyan and Korumburra.
These projects will entirely rebuild more than 2.5 kilometres of the highway.

•    A further $1.4 million will be invested into road resurfacing works at 11 locations along the highway, including sections near Loch, Meeniyan and Foster.

In total, more than $3.7 million will be invested into roadworks along the South Gippsland Highway as part of the 2022/23 regional road maintenance blitz.
The roads set to be targeted under the maintenance blitz have been selected based upon expert inspections and community feedback.
This major investment will also include rebuilding bridges, culverts and retaining walls, and inspecting and maintaining thousands of traffic lights, signs and other structures.
An additional $3.2 million of funding will be invested in maintaining regional roadsides, with more mowing, weed spraying and graffiti removal work set to be completed across the network.
