A Grade, Division 2
WONTHAGGI picked up their first win of the season in an interesting second outing for the LDCA’s A2 division, taking home a 73-run win over Koonwarra L/RSL in a McMahon Reserve runs fest.
The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first and posted a mammoth total of 6/254 after their 40 overs, highlighted by a Lochlan McLean’s (105 off 63) century, David Britt’s (98 off 92) near century and their 99-run stand.
The Club pair put Cougars skipper James Rushton (2/33 from 5.4) and his men to the sword and although they pitched in a brave effort in the chase behind Azhar Mehmood (66 off 68), the fatal blow had already been dealt.
Jake Trevisi (3/34 from 8) was great with the ball in the win, and helped hand Koony’ their second loss in as many games.
A captains century
ANOTHER team who topped the 200 mark in their win was Nyora who got the chocolates at home against Nerrena on the weekend.
The hosts won the toss and never really looked back, getting behind their star opener Henry Dolphin (117*) who’s marvellous captain’s century, alongside Aaron Kaddatz’ (53) efforts, saw them race to 2/226 after their 40.
Archie Gannon (1/30 from 7) was gallant with the ball, but his side had a lot of chasing to do to bring home the win and they competed admirably but couldn’t get it done, falling 47-runs short.
Tadgh Gannon (54) was the standout for the visitors against Dolphin (3/8 from 4) and the quality Nyora attack.

Four-wicket win
ON THE other side of the tape, there was a couple of low scoring affairs as MDU fell to Foster at the Meeniyan Recreation Reserve to the tune of six-wickets.
The Demons won the toss and elected to bat, but it backfired on them, losing all of their wickets before their allotted overs were completed with just 92 runs on the board.
Opener Mitch McGrath (28 off 63) top scored in an outing to forget for the hosts, as the Tigers feasted behind the performance of Josh Toner (3/22 from 8).
In reply, despite losing both openers for less than 10, the visitors made easy work of the simple total, clinching the win just four wickets down with 16 overs remaining.
Backfiring first bat
ANOTHER low scoring game was the contest between Kilcunda-Bass and Glen Alvie, which saw the visiting Alvie XI also claim a six-wicket win.
The Sharks won the toss and elected to bat first but just as it had for the Dees’ it backfired too for Killy’ Bass, losing all ten of their wickets for 111, although they were able to last into the final over.
Matthew Grayson (34 off 54) top scored in the innings while Ben McRae (4/9 from 7.4) did the damage with the ball.
In reply, the Alvie were able to reach the total inside 32 overs but not without a challenge from Todd Smith (1/17 from 8) and the Sharks.
