THE picks are in for this year’s edition of The Carlton Draft and Wil Schofield is heading to Hill End and Grove Rovers for a one-off match. The Sporting Globe, Richmond, hosted the live draft night on Wednesday, April 30. Fans, club representatives, players, and other footy personalities gathered to witness the event.
“I feel great. I’m the first backman to be ever involved in the Carton Draft. I’m actually a bit worried about some of the forwards and midfielders involved so I’m confident. Have I achieved as much as the others no, I haven’t but I feel really good,” Wil said ahead of the pick. However, it was a different story post-selection.
“I’ve considered playing the backline, and I’ve thought ‘nup, not going to do that’. I’m going to play in the ruck, wing or high half-forward with no defensive accountability. Trying to get as many touches as I can and kick as many goals as I can. I love community footy, country footy. I spent a lot of time in country clubs.”
As for whether Wil’s excited.
“Bloody oath I’m excited. I think I’ll actually offer something on and off the field; I think maybe I’m the package.”
