PHILLIP Island is hungry for an outright win after making short work of MDU’s batting order.
MDU won the toss at the Newhaven Recreation Reserve and chose to bat first.
Captain Craig Hoober was the standout for his team, putting 22 runs on the scoreboard.
Other notable contributions came from Zak Bright, Gary Webster and Wayne Prosser, with 18, 16 and 12 runs respectively.
Bright was not out at the end of the innings.
Phillip Island bowler Jobe Williams did the most damage for MDU, taking 4/16.
Three wickets were also claimed by captain Kurt Lane.
MDU finished its innings with 10/99.
Phillip Island played its innings with Lane contributing a whopping 136 run effort and was not out at stumps.
Thomas Blackwell added 29 runs.
Wickets fell to MDU bowlers Mike Olden, Bright and Tyrone Zukovskis.
Phillip Island faced 25 overs, resulting in a tally of 3/195.
Stingrays battle the Imps
INVERLOCH will also be vying for an outright win following a slow innings from the Imperials.
Captain Kristian Gray kept the Imps in it with 38 runs, before he was bowled by Archie Terlich.
Cameron Bruce contributed 19 runs to the score.
Multiple wickets fell to Inverloch bowlers Terlich, Isaac Seuren and Ty Debono.
The Imps faced 44 overs and recorded a final score of 7/78.
Inverloch was quick to reach this total, with captain Brett Debono and Seuren scoring 58 and 16 respectively.
Both were not out at stumps.
A wicket to James Forrester dismissed Riley Harris, who made two runs.
Inverloch faced 26 overs to reach their tally of 1/81.
Cobras stay competitive
KORUMBURRA went into battle against OMK on Saturday.
Playing at the Korumburra Recreation Reserve, the home team won the toss and chose to bat.
Wickets fell to OMK bowler Rueben Foster with Robert Quaife at the ready for a catch, which dismissed the opening partnership.
Korumburra co-captains Philip Richards and Shane Dole put the Cobras back on track, making 35 and 45 runs respectively.
Barry Wyatt was OMK’s top bowler, taking 3/54.
Foster and captain Kris Kerr claimed three wickets each.
Korumburra finished the day with 10/173.
The match details for the match between Koonwarra L/RSL and Leongatha Town were unavailable before going to print. Koonwarra L/RSL’s score was 10/208.
B Grade, Division 2
Strong performance for Wonthaggi Club
WONTHAGGI Club produced a handy score against third-placed Phillip Island on Saturday.
Playing at the Rhyll Cricket Ground, Club won the toss and chose to bat first.
Opening batsman Jy Hull led the charge for Club, hitting 73 runs before he was dismissed by David Womersley.




The top of the batting order worked hard, with 43 runs to Chris Fraser, 44 runs to Luke McGuirk and 39 not out from Jed Caddy.
Matt Sharp rounded out the innings with 21 not out.
Phillip Island bowler Tony Hornsby had an impact on Club’s reign, taking 4/61.
Andrew Tolley was another multiple wicket taker.
Club played out its 70 overs, resulting in a final score of 9/249.
Phillip Island will have its turn to bat this weekend.
OMK play classy innings
OMK played a strong innings at Glen Alvie’s home ground on Saturday.
The away team won the toss and chose to bat.
Opening batsman Justin Greenwood made a statement, hitting 87 runs before a catch from Archie Donohue dismissed him.
Bradley Hayes continued Greenwood’s run, putting another 85 runs on the scoreboard.
Sam Matthews and Jordan Myors rounded out the innings, making 35 and 23 runs respectively, both not out.
Nathan Thatcher was Glen Alvie’s top bowler, taking 4/84.
Other wickets fell to Jack Brown, Archie Luke and Archie Moore.
OMK recorded a total of 7/275.
Glen Alvie will have its opportunity to bat this weekend.
Cobras under pressure
KORUMBURRA is under the pump to defend its score against Nerrena.
The Cobras won the toss and went into bat first.
Tim Morrison top scored with 32 runs, with Noah Belvedere adding another 30 runs.
Nerrena’s star bowlers were Scott Checkley, claiming 4/13, and Charlie Dougherty with 3/15.
Korumburra finished its innings with 10/130.
In reply, Nerrena made 1/93.
Helms made 52 runs before retiring, and Gannon hit 32 not out.
Korumburra bowler Tom Sorrell took 1/22.
Nerrena will continue its innings this Saturday.
Foster eye Sharks’ score
KILCUNDA-Bass faced Foster on Saturday.
Playing at home, Foster won the toss and sent Kilcunda-Bass in to bat first.
Kilcunda-Bass’ opening batsman Brett Joseph made a strong start with 40 runs.
This ended up being the top score, with Darcy Clay and Allan Bedford later making 29 and 31 runs respectively.
Ben East and Jake Pilkington were Foster’s best bowlers, each claiming three wickets.
Kilcunda-Bass finished its innings with 10/167.
Foster opened its account but struggled to get many runs on the scoreboard.
A private player made 12 runs, but Pilkington and Brandon Busuttil were both dismissed for ducks.
Kilcunda-Bass bowlers Rohan Duff and captain Bradley Waldron took one wicket each.
Foster had made 2/14 at stumps and will continue its run this Saturday.
