TOP team Phillip Island is threatening Inverloch’s score in the two-day B1 match.
Playing at the Newhaven Recreation Reserve, Inverloch won the toss and went into bat.
Captain Brett Debono started well with 29 runs, but a slew of ducks and few runs put Inverloch on the backfoot.
Dean Cashin and Shaun Hayes made an attempt to save the innings by contributing 18 and 23 runs respectively towards the end.
Phillip Island Tarryn Allan wiped out the bottom half of the batting order by taking 5/41.
George McCausland took care of the top of the batting order with 4/14.
In the 49th over, Inverloch was bowled out 10/98.
Phillip Island opened its innings, sending in opening partnership Max Arceo and Tharidu Asurumuni.
Arceo made 17 runs and Asurumuni made 25 runs.
Inverloch bowlers Dean Cashin and John Richardson claimed two wickets each, dismissing Arceo and David Womersley, and Asurumuni and Thomas Blackwell respectively.
Kai Wilkinson-Iones and McCausland will continue the innings this weekend.
Phillip Island reached 4/63 at stumps.
Club eyes victory
KORUMBURRA made 10/179, but Wonthaggi Club is approaching.
Choosing to bat first, Korumburra managed to get some handy early runs on the board with Trevor Allen making 79.
However, the remainder of the innings was fairly quiet by comparison, with Philip Richards delivering the second-best score of 16 runs.
Club captain Sean Roche subdued Korumburra by taking 4/61.
Shaun Tessari and Bryce Evans claimed two wickets each.
Club started its innings but quickly lost Roche for a duck at the hands of Shane Dole.
Dole also dismissed Heath Dobbie for a duck.
Jai Williamson and Tessari were not out at stumps, making 46 and 14 runs respectively.
Club will continue its innings this Saturday with a score of 2/63.
MDU bowls out
OMK for 141
OMK elected to bat first but will need to work hard to defend its score of 9/141 against MDU.
OMK had a steady start to the innings, with the top scores coming from Mitchell Nicholas and David Jeffries late in the day.
Nicholas made 34 runs and Jeffries was 26 not out.
MDU bowlers Andrew Richardson and Stephen Riley picked off OMK’s batting order, claiming 3/9 and 3/37 respectively.
Singles were taken by Callum McCaughan and Daniel Field.
MDU opened its account with captain Wayne Prosser making 25 runs.
Craig Hoober had made 36 not out at stumps.
OMK bowler Ben Maguire claimed two wickets, while singles were taken by Harvey Sorensen, Daniel Wylie and Jeffries.



MDU will vie to pass OMK’s score, currently sitting on 5/99.

Imperials set to answer Kilcunda-Bass’ effort
JUST short of a ton, Kilcunda-Bass batsman Bradley Elmore-Jeffries hopes to lead his team to a win over the Imperials with a 97-run haul.
Kilcunda-Bass finished its innings with 10/216, awaiting a response from the Imperials this Saturday.
Elmore-Jefferies opened the batting at Leongatha’s East Campus with Brett Joseph, who made 17 runs.
Once Joseph was dismissed, Daniel Ferguson stepped in to contribute 28 runs.
Another 22 runs was later added by Andrew Leighton.
James Jeffery was the top bowler for the Imperials, taking 3/41.
Noah McLennan and Andrew Meyer claimed two each.
The Imperials did not have time to open its account.
Town in the game as Nyora eyes win
NYORA has the momentum to chase down Leongatha Town’s score of 10/139.
Playing at Scorpion Park, Town won the toss and chose to bat.
Trent McRae and Travis Strybosch contributed 25 and 21 runs respectively.
However, it was Max Carter – batting fourth in the order – who kept Town in the game, making 37 not out.
Nyora bowler Ryan White did not hold back, taking out the first three batsmen in Town’s order, and the last two to close the innings.
White ultimately took 5/31, including the dismissal of Paul Carter for a golden duck.
Jaylen Waixel claimed two wickets.
With Town bowled out, Nyora opened its innings.
Opening batsman Daniel Esler was formidable, making 50 not out.
Trent McRae bowled Jordan Knox and captain Lochie Row for ducks, and another two wickets were claimed by captain Levi Hickey.
With 4/89, Nyora will be looking to topple Town this Saturday.
Gay keeps Foster in contention
GLEN Alvie chose to bat first at the Foster Golf Club on Saturday.
The away side played a consistent innings with Glenn Moore getting the ball rolling with 24 runs.
Ned and Andrew Brown added 22 and 21 runs respectively.
Daniel Gilbert top scored late in the innings with 29 not out.
Foster’s star bowler was Jack Gay, who took 3/48.
Brett Gay was the only other multiple-wicket taker.
With a target of 6/141, Foster is set to bat on Saturday.
Koonwarra L/RSL had the bye.
