B Grade, Division 1

PHILLIP Island showed why it is currently on top of the ladder after putting third-placed Nerrena through its paces on Saturday.

The Sharks travelled to the Nerrena Recreation Reserve to take on the Red Caps, with the home team winning the toss.

Opening batsman Billy Trotman was bowled for five runs by Timothy Niven.

His dismissal sent in James Kelly to work with Kade Berryman, and they went on to make 28 and 23 runs respectively.

These were the top scores as the Phillip Island fielders upped the pressure.

Niven and Tarryn Allen took three wickets each.

Jobe Williams was also a multiple-wicket taker.

Nerrena was bowled out 10/119 in the 57th over.

Phillip Island opened its innings, but the Croattos were unwilling to let them get off to an easy start.

Tharidu Asurumuni and Lawrence Ferrari opened the batting.

Asurumuni is still in with 15 not out, but Ferrari was bowled by William Croatto after three runs.

Sarith Angelo was sent out to bat and immediately sent back after Mitchell Croatto bowled him for a golden duck.

Asurumuni and Williams will continue Phillip Island’s campaign next weekend.

Phillip Island is sitting on 2/27, having faced 13 overs.

Game on for Inverloch

MDU is ready to defend 10/175 against Inverloch this Saturday.

MDU won the toss at Inverloch’s Thompson Reserve and after a slow start began to see rewards for its efforts on the scoreboard.

Craig Hoober and Matt Martin made the first significant contributions with 25 and 23 runs respectively.

Daniel Field top scored with 37 not out late in the day and Dylan Zuidema recorded 21 runs.

For Inverloch, the top bowlers for the day were John Richardson and Leigh Cole, claiming 3/34 and 3/40.

Callan O’Flynn and Archie Terlich also took two wickets each.

Inverloch now awaits its chance to respond.

OMK eyes the chase this weekend

Wonthaggi Club posted a handy score of 10/209, but OMK will be looking to pass the target on Saturday.

Playing in Outtrim, OMK won the toss but sent in Club to set the tone of the game.

Opening batsman David Britt delivered when he made the top score of 41 runs. Heath Dobbie later added 32 runs to the score.

Nicholas Auddino was a threat to Club early as he claimed 5/59.

He was responsible for the dismissal of most of the top half of Club’s batting order.

Toby Nicholas and David Jeffries took two wickets each.

Club was bowled out in the 64th over, giving OMK the opportunity to open its account.

The opening partnership of captain Adam Busana and Mitchell Sawyers each made two runs not out and will pick up where they left off this weekend.

Korumburra had the bye. 

B Grade, Division 2

Koonwarra L/RSL has victory in its sights 

IT WAS a tough day for Glen Alvie with Koonwarra L/RSL descending on its final score.

Glen Alvie welcomed Koonwarra L/RSL to the Glen Alvie Recreation Reserve and won the toss, but it was downhill from there.

Louis Read slowed Glen Alvie’s run rate significantly as he claimed 4/8.

This included the dismissal of Andrew Brown, who tried to salvage Glen Alvie’s score with a top score of 22 runs.

Glenn Boxall and Britney Thomas claimed two wickets each.Glen Alvie was bowled out 10/76.

Koonwarra L/RSL played 17 overs, opened by Boxall and Darren Read.

Boxall was caught by Jay Tiziani for 12 runs off the bowling of Archie Donohue.

Nick Arnup joined Read and made 11 and 23 runs respectively. Koonwarra L/RSL is sitting on 1/51, eying off Glen Alvie’s score of 76.

Town leads battle

KILCUNDA-BASS also has its work cut out for it in its battle against Leongatha Town.

Town won the toss at the Bass Recreation Reserve and chose to field.

Town captain Levi Hickey led the charge to keep scores low, claiming 4/13. 

Kilcunda-Bass captain Ray Gardiner top-scored with 24 runs before he was bowled by Hickey.

He was the only batsman to reach double figures.

Bowler Lachlan Gill joined the attack by taking 3/21 and Frazer Livingstone claimed 2/9.

Kilcunda-Bass was bowled out 10/85 in the 49th over.

Town opened its innings with Trent McRae making 13 runs and captain Luke Ashton making seven runs.

Both had their wickets claimed by Rohan Duff.

Allan Bedford kept the intensity up by dismissing Luke Bowman and Colin Bruce for ducks.

Town is sitting on 4/23 and Max Carter and Davern Goss will go into bat when play resumes this weekend.

Knox steadies Nyora

NYORA will be pursuing an outright win against Foster this weekend.

Playing at the Poowong Recreation Reserve, Foster chose to bat first.

Opening batsman Brandon Busuttil was quickly dismissed by Sam Henry for three runs, but the partnership of Neil Henry and Tim Garvey managed to make 21 and 32 runs respectively.

Sam Henry continued to work his way through the Foster batsmen, taking 4/30.

Tully Bernaldo, Tyler Perkins and William Dixon added to the decimation of Foster’s batting order by taking two wickets each.

By the 50th over, Foster was all out 10/99.

Nyora played 20 overs before it overtook Foster.

Daniel Esler and Jordan Knox opened the batting for Nyora.

Esler made 16 runs before he was caught by Brad Cripps off the bowling of Lance Moon.

Captain Keith Linford was sent in next and made 10 runs before his wicket was claimed by Ryan Jorgensen.

Knox and Ryan White made 42 and 25 not out, which pushed Nyora’s final tally to 2/107.

The Imperials had the bye.
