A Grade, Division 1

PHILLIP Island set itself up well to defend its total against Inverloch.

Playing at the Newhaven Recreation Reserve, Inverloch won the toss and sent the home team to the crease.

Phillip Island’s opening batsman Heath Womersley had the Sharks off to a nice start with 22 runs.

Captain Daniel Mock stepped in after the early dismissal of Thomas Niven and top scored with 54 runs.

Shiran Rathnayake also contributed 38 runs to the scoreboard in a team effort to achieve a comfortable score.

Inverloch bowler Andrew Donohue fought back against the Sharks, claiming 3/79.

Harry Butcher was also a multiple wicket taker.

After playing out its 75 overs, Phillip Island challenged Inverloch with a final score of 9/209. 

Wightman challenges the Imperials

SIX wickets claimed by Timothy Wightman kept the Nerrena underdogs competitive in the A1 match against The Imperials.

The Imps won the toss and chose to bat first.

The opening partnership of Luke Rogers and Nick Eddy combined well to contribute 18 and 33 runs respectively.

Dimithri Weerakkodi Arachchige top scored with 42 off 65 balls before Wightman ended his run.

Wightman worked his way through the rest of the order, with wickets also shared between Jarrod Hoy and Josh Trease.

The Imps ended its innings with a score of 10/154.

Nerrena opened its innings with Loc Roberts contributing nine runs and Hoy making three runs.

Both were bowled LBW by Lachie Wright and captain Jack Ginnane.

Hayden Funnell made 13 runs and was not out at stumps.

Nerrena made 2/32 and will finish off its innings on Saturday.

Cobras demolish Town’s tally 

KORUMBURRA will be going for an outright win against a shellshocked Leongatha Town this Saturday.

In the first day of the two-day A1 match last weekend, the Cobras won the toss and made a good decision when it sent Town into bat first.

Jacob Whiteside’s bowling was in form as he and Thilakaratna Dilshan decimated Town’s batting order.

Whiteside and Dilshan claimed 5/20 and 3/32 respectively.

Town had a quiet innings with no one batting above double digits until Pandukabhaya Jayasinghe stepped up.

Jayasinghe top scored with 16 runs, and Jack Hume contributed a further 12 runs.

Town ended its innings with 10/60.

Korumburra opened its innings and opening batsman Tom Crocker sailed over Town’s tally.

Crocker put in a huge effort and made 90 runs before he was dismissed.

Nadeesha Belpage contributed 25 runs to the Cobra’s total.

Multiple wickets were taken by Town bowlers Rhett Hume, Ron Abeysinghe and Josh Williams.

Korumburra played 38.5 overs and made 9/156.

OMK deliver tough contest 

A MIGHTY effort from OMK resulted in a tough ask for Wonthaggi Club on Saturday. 

The first day of the two-day A1 match was played at Outtrim, with the home side winning the toss and opting to bat first.

Opening batsman Ethan Lamers set a nice pace with 35 runs before he was caught by James Sheerin.

Sheerin was also fierce with his bowling, taking 6/75. 

Batting fourth in the order, Mudassar Riaz made a statement by hitting 82 runs.

Club stood its ground and kept the rest of the batting order quiet – except for Peter Dell.

Dell stepped up to the crease and added an extra 80 runs to OMK’s tally.

Zavier Lamers also rounded out the innings with 39 runs and was not out.

OMK played 70 overs and finished up with a total of 10/285.

Club had the opportunity to open its account and played five overs.

Opening batsman Stewart Beaumont was caught by Jacob Lamers after making eight runs.

Mitch Thomas hit seven runs and Fraser West made four runs, with both not out at stumps.

Sitting on 1/21, Club will continue its innings this Saturday.
