Solid effort from Breakers as they face top of the ladder

FACING the top of the ladder Red Hill-Balnarring the Breakers were keen to show their improvement since their first meeting early in the season. 

With some great clearances from the ruck by Jenna Russo and Molly Conroy the Breakers had plenty of the play but unfortunately weren’t able to convert that into scoring opportunities. 

Up the other end, Brooke McKean and Jayde Lamb were doing a great job on the last line of defence limiting Balnarring to one goal.

A lucky bounce for Gaby Hynes gave the Breakers their first goal to even up the score going into quarte-time.

Balnarring came out attacking in the second quarter with two quick goals and added a third just before halftime. A huge run-down tackle from Brooke McKean was a highlight of the quarter. 

The home side continued to dominate the scoreboard in the third however a free kick and 50 metre penalty from the centre bounce gave Tess Angarane an easy goal. 

Despite being down to 16 with no bench the Breakers lifted in the last quarter with plenty of positives to take away. A great link-up play created an opportunity for Kelly Pethick who finished off with a great goal. 

Montana Kranen put in a huge last-quarter effort with a number of clearing kicks from halfback while Annie Dempsey contested well deep in defence. 

While well beaten on the scoreboard Breakers coach Ella Angarane was happy with the team’s effort. Highlighting the way they were able to run out the match and execute what they have been practicing at training.
