South Gippsland cricket veterans return to training grounds

SOUTH Gippsland Kookaburras Veterans Cricketers are back in action.

Training at the inside cricket facility at Korumburra has been happening since the start of August with this Thursday scheduled to be their last training session at the indoor nets at Korumburra commencing at 1.30pm.

Weather permitting training will revert to the Kookaburras normal in season training schedule at the Outtrim Cricket Ground at 4.30pm each Wednesday.

The club continues to expand attracting cricketers from all over South Gippsland.

This year the club will continue with two Over 50’s teams, one Over 60’s team and a combined Over 70’s team. The Lyrebird Over 50’s Gippsland League, in which one of the Over 50’s teams play, has now expanded to eight teams for the coming season. The second Over 50’s team play in the Melbourne Competition, as does the Over 60’s and Over 70’s team as part of the Victorian Veterans Cricket competition.

There are nearly three hundred Over 70’s cricketers currently playing in the competition and over 2000 players in the Over 60’s. As well as the normal Sunday competitions there are State and

Australian Championships in which South Gippsland has had representations.

The emphasis of Veterans cricket is participation, in which, the benefits of health and overall well-being are seen as the major outcomes.
