A Grade, Division 1

NERRENA demonstrated its dominance over Leongatha Town on Saturday.

Town has its work cut out for it this weekend as it will attempt to beat Nerrena’s score of 3/326.

Playing at the Leongatha Recreation Reserve, Nerrena won the toss and made the excellent decision of batting first to set the standard for the match.

Jack Curtis was sent into bat first with Loc Roberts.

Curtis made an impressive 113 runs before he retired not out.

Roberts was dismissed for 13 runs after he was bowled by Ethan Smith.

This saw Thomas Cameron step in, resulting in an effort just shy of a ton with 97 runs.

Mitchell Clark kept the momentum going with 51 runs, and Timothy Wightman and Jarrod Hoy closed the innings with 20 not out and six not out respectively.

Only three wickets were claimed, taken by Town captain Rhett Hume, Smith and Dulaj Lakshitha Mendis Polwaththa Gallage.

Town’s innings will be played on Saturday.

Explosive 125 propels OMK to commanding lead

A WHOPPING 125-run haul from Ethan Lamers has OMK sitting fairly comfortably after its first innings against Koonwarra L/RSL.

Clayton Quaife and Zavier Lamers opened the batting for OMK, but Koonwarra L/RSL’s Blake Smith was quick to bowl out Quaife for two runs.

Ethan Lamers stepped in and seemed unbeatable until he was caught by Harry Scrimshaw off the bowling of James Rushton.

Following the dismissal of Zavier Lamers, Jake Cochrane added 59 runs.

Koonwarra L/RSL bowlers Jason Kennedy and Joshua Thomas battled hard to slow OMK’s run towards the end of the innings.

Kennedy claimed 4/50 and Thomas took 2/31, keeping run tallies low.

Rushton also claimed two wickets for the day.

Koonwarra L/RSL will bat this weekend with the target set on 10/265. 

Brown dazzles as Island restrains Wonthaggi

TOP of the table Phillip Island held Wonthaggi Club to 10/173. Club won the toss at its home ground and chose to bat.

Batting fourth in the order, Stewart Beaumont top-scored with 44 runs.

Gavin Britt and Lochlan McLean later added 25 and 24 runs respectively.

Phillip Island bowler Zac Brown made the innings difficult for Club.

Brown claimed 4/48 and ended the innings by bowling out Jack Sheerin for a golden duck.

Three wickets were also claimed by Max Royal.

Phillip Island opened its account and played six overs.

A catch from Beaumont off the bowling of Mitch Thomas dismissed Connor Epifano for eight runs.

Lachlan Cleeland and Timothy Niven are set to continue batting this weekend, with Phillip Island’s score sitting on 1/14. 

Captain Spicer’s triple-duck blitz 

KORUMBURRA has its sights set on the Imperials’ score of 10/177.

The Imperials chose to bat first, and Luke Rogers made eight runs before Harry McNeil claimed his wicket.

Batting third, Timothy Sauvarin went on to top score with 70 runs before he was dismissed LBW by Steve Hamil.

Captain Jack Ginanne added 44 runs before he was also dismissed by McNeil.

The Imperials’ run slowed by the end of the innings as Korumburra captain Ben Spicer claimed three ducks.

Spicer was Korumburra’s top bowler, taking 4/62, followed by McNeil with 3/52.

The Imperials will be determined to defend their score on Saturday.
