Superb Stingettes claim first women’s flag

FOR the first time in Leongatha District Cricket Association (LDCA) history it was women’s Grand Final day as the inaugural women’s season reached its last Sunday. 

The big day kicked off at 10am down in Foster as the two Tigers squads went at it in the Division two decider. 

Once again, just as they have all season, the two Foster teams produced some sensational cricket in what was a brilliant game from start to finish. 

In the end though, it was Foster Black taking the crown, winning the Division two Grand Final by just 20-runs and becoming the first LDCA Women’s Division two premiers. 

Congratulations to both Foster teams on their terrific seasons. 

Following the amazing start from the Tigers ladies, the Division one Grand Final was held at 1pm at Koonwarra and it sure did not disappoint. 

The hometown Koony side hosted the surging ‘Stingettes’ who had not been defeated at any point throughout the season, including beating their Grand Final opponents twice. 

Inverloch went in to bat first and thanks to some hard running and quality shot play, were able to post a competitive total of 112. 

Although, the hosts were determined to pull off the upset on their home deck and despite some exceptional early fielding from the Invy ladies, were able to make the red and blue faithful sweat towards the end. 

Koonwarra were brave in the chase, but ultimately fell 19-runs short, handing the Stingettes the historic win.

Not only did the victory solidify the Inverloch Stingettes names into the history books as the first ever LDCA women’s Division one premiers, but they also completed the perfect season, winning all of their games. 

Congratulations to the Inverloch Cricket Club, an outstanding achievement and they were well supported throughout the season and the Grand Final. 

Congratulations to all the clubs who participated in the incredible first women’s season, it was hugely supported by all and looks to have a very bright future.
