NERRENA batsman Damien Symmons put on an incredible show and delivered a 100-run haul in Saturday’s T20 match against Wonthaggi Club.
The Red Caps travelled out to Wonthaggi’s McMahon Reserve, where the home side won the toss and sent the visitors into bat.
Symmons opened the batting with Kade Berryman and could not be moved.
Berryman was bowled by captain Sean Roche at 1/14 and James Kelly made 30 runs before he was caught by Shaun Tessari off the bowling of Bailey Harvey at 2/88.
Ryan Clark saw out the innings with Symmons, making 30 not out.
Symmons made his ton after facing 62 balls, hitting 12 fours and four sixes.
After its 20 overs, Nerrena had made 2/177.
Club struggled to make an impact on its scoreboard, under the pressure of the bowling of William Croatto, until Roche stepped up midway through the innings.
Roche made 63 runs before Tyson Harris claimed his wicket.
Tessari added 22 runs towards the end of the innings.
Croatto’s bowling figures were 4/13, with Clark, Jaxon Checkley and Harris claiming two wickets each.
The win went to Nerrena after Club was bowled out 10/123.
MDU snatches last-over win
MDU managed to pip Korumburra at the Meeniyan Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
MDU won the toss and sent the opposition into bat.
Trevor Allen and Caleb Turton opened Korumburra’s account.
Allen was dismissed for a duck by Tyrone Zukovskis but Turton went on to make 43 not out.
MDU bowler Riley Prosser dismissed Noah Belvedere and Zachary Barrett for 16 and 10 runs respectively, and Aaron Damon saw out the innings with Turton.
Damon contributed 38 not out.
Korumburra had reached 3/120 by the end of its 20 overs.
Korumburra was quick to dismiss MDU’s opening partnership of Zukovskis and Craig Hoober, but the partnership of Callum McCaughan and captain Wayne Prosser made up the difference.
McCaughan and Prosser made 35 and 30 runs respectively.
For Korumburra, Owen Maskell was the top bowler of the day, taking 2/15.
Single wickets were taken by Bryce Riddell, Jayden Douglas and Tyler Dole.
In the 19th over MDU had the win when it passed Korumburra with a score of 6/121.
Island’s bowlers dominate
PHILLIP Island outclassed OMK at the Rhyll Cricket Ground on Saturday.
OMK won the toss and chose to field.
Phillip Island started well with the opening partnership of Max Arceo and Kurt Lane making 23 and 27 runs respectively.
Lane’s wicket was the first to fall at 1/32, claimed by OMK captain Kris Kerr.
Tharidu Asurumuni followed on and made the top score of 28 runs.
David Womersley closed the innings with 24 not out.
Barry Wyatt gave the best bowling performance for OMK, taking 2/23.
Kerr, Nicholas Auddino and captain Adam Busana were the single wicket takers.
Phillip Island was ready to defend 5/136 after its 20 overs.
Things took a rough turn for OMK when Timothy Niven dismissed Busana for a golden duck and Kerr for one run.
Batting third in the order, Jaxon Hayes managed 10 runs before he was bowled by Harry Arceo at 3/13.
The dismissal of Hayes sent in Adam Trotto, batting fifth, who gave OMK a more uplifting score when he made 34 not out.
However, Tarryn Allan worked hard to wipe out the bottom half of OMK’s batting order, forcing a swift finish.
Allan’s bowling figures were 4/18 and Niven claimed 2/11.
In the 18th over, OMK was bowled out with a score of 10/75.




Inverloch had the round eight bye.
B Grade, Division 2
Cougars snag a win
KOONWARRA L/RSL snatched a win from Kilcunda-Bass in the T20 B2 match on Saturday.
Playing at the Koonwarra Recreation Reserve, the toss was Kilcunda-Bass’ win for the day and the Sharks elected to bat first.
Brett Joseph gave the Sharks hope as he opened the account and went on to make 43 runs before he was bowled by Britney Thomas.
Joseph had top-scored for Kilcunda-Bass, with Gregory Miller and Allan Bedford later adding 17 and 16 runs respectively.
Thomas and Spencer Chadwick were Koonwarra L/RSL’s top bowlers, taking 2/21 and 2/17.
Single wickets were claimed by Glenn Boxall, Matthew Boswell and Nick Arnup.
At the end of 20 overs, Kilcunda-Bass had made 7/116.
Boxall and Darren Read opened the batting for Koonwarra L/RSL.
Boxall’s wicket was claimed by Bedford for one run, but Read went on to make 30 runs before he was caught by Andrew Leighton off the bowling of Alister McBride.
Benjamin Heppell led his team to victory by making 53 not out.
Leighton and McBride claimed two wickets each, with the only other wicket taken by Bedford.
Koonwarra L/RSL played out its 20 overs and just made it across the line with a score of 5/120.
Late contributions secure 5/89 victory
THE Imperials went into the mid-season break on a happy note after claiming the win from Nyora.
Nyora batted first, sending in Colin and Jordan Knox.
The pair made 16 and 10 runs respectively, which unfortunately looked to be the top scores for some time.
Lincoln Brock kept Nyora competitive with 21 runs late in the innings.
Adam White contributed 17 not out.
For the Imperials, James Jeffery led the bowling campaign with 3/20.
Two wickets were taken by Kane Maskell.
Nyora came to the end of its 20 overs with 9/86.
Maskell and captain Kristian Gray opened for the Imperials, with Maskell making 12 runs and Gray 22.
The top scores were delivered at the end of the innings when a private player and Francois Botha made 24 runs each.
The private player was bowled out by Tyler Perkins and Botha was not out.
Ryan White claimed two wickets for Nyora, with single wickets taken by Sam Henry, Tully Bernaldo and Perkins.
The Imperials won with a score of 5/89 in the 19th over.
Hickey and Carter shine
LEONGATHA Town enjoyed a comfortable win over Glen Alvie to see out the first half of the 2024/25 season.
Leongatha won the toss at Scorpion Park and made a great start to its innings when Mark Hardy and Trent McRae made 31 and 69 runs respectively.
A further 31 runs was added by Luke Bowman.
Jack Brown and Gaby Hynes shared Glen Alvie’s bowling honours, taking 3/19 and 3/25 respectively.
Town finished its innings with 6/145.
However, Glen Alvie could not match Town’s high-scoring efforts.
Opening batsman Glenn Moore was dismissed for a golden duck off the bowling of captain Levi Hickey.
Archie Donohue had opened the batting with Moore and went on to make 19 not out.
The top score went to Ned Brown with 21 runs, batting fourth in the order.
Max Carter had Town’s best bowling figures, taking 2/9.
Single wickets fell to Hickey and Kohen Gilliatte.
After its 20 overs, Glen Alvie only managed to reach 5/74.
Foster had the round eight bye.
