LEONGATHA Town was ruthless against Glen Alvie on Saturday.

Playing in the first day of the two-day match, Town won the toss and chose to bowl.

The Town bowlers made short work of the batting order until captain Ian Thorn stepped up to the wicket.

Thorn made 38 runs before he was dismissed by a catch from Ned Hanily.

Town’s destruction continued through the rest of Glen Alvie’s line up.

Max Carter had Town’s best bowling figures, taking 3/9.

Travis Strybosch was also a multiple wicket taker.

Glen Alvie’s result was 10/96.

Town dominated Glen Alvie from the outset of its first innings.

The opening partnership of Nigel Hodges and Tim Cashin successfully opened the account, making 23 and 21 runs respectively.

Hanily led the carnage, hitting 84 not out.

Carter made 16 runs and was also not out.

Wickets were taken by Wayne Bridle and a private player for Glen Alvie.

Town finished off the day with 2/170.

It will challenge Glen Alvie for an outright win on Saturday.

Nyora dominates

AN EXTRAORDINARY 130 run haul from Colin Knox will have Nyora feeling confident going into Koonwarra L/RSL’s innings this Saturday.

Koonwarra L/RSL hosted the match and elected to bowl first after winning the toss.

Knox opened for Nyora and the Cougars battled to stop him.

Eventually, he was bowled lbw by Shane Paterson.

However, Nyora’s batsmen were not done.

Keith Linford hit 43 and Ben Pugh was 70 not out at the end of the innings.

Paterson battled to stop Nyora, taking 3/59.

Nyora finished its innings with 4/278.

Koonwarra L/RSL will have its opportunity to bat this Saturday.
