KORUMBURRA is under threat with ladder leader Nerrena well on the way to chasing down its score.
The Cobras’ run rate was slowed substantially by Red Caps bowler Josh Trease, who took a whopping 8/25.
Nerrena had won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Leongatha Recreation Reserve.
Korumburra captain Ben Spicer made the top score of 36 runs, with 24 and 20 runs contributed by Rumesh Rangana and Mustafa Nader.
Trease’s impact was felt right through the innings, with the other two wickets claimed by Timothy Wightman and Darcy Berryman.
Korumburra played 62 overs before it was bowled out 10/137.
Jack Curtis and Loc Roberts opened Nerrena’s innings.
Roberts was caught for five runs by Andy Millar off the bowling of Harry McNeil.
Tadgh Gannon was sent in, and he and Curtis made six and 31 not out.
Nerrena played 13 overs and is sitting on 1/42.
Sharks set challenge for Cougars
Phillip Island delivered a handy innings to challenge Koonwarra/LRSL on Saturday.
Koonwarra/LRSL travelled out to the Cowes Recreation Reserve, where it lost the toss and bowled first.
Connor Epifano and Lachlan Cleeland opened for Phillip Island, with Epifano retiring not out for 25 runs.
Brodie Johnston was sent in, and he made 17 runs before he was caught by Jason Kennedy off the bowling of Joshua Thomas.
Johnston’s dismissal saw captain Daniel Mock join Cleeland at the crease.
They went on to make 78 and 69 runs respectively.
Koonwarra/LRSL captain James Rushton upped the pressure from then on, claiming 4/73 and wiping out the bottom of Phillip Island’s order.
Three wickets were taken by Thomas.



Phillip Island finished its innings with a score of 9/252.
Koonwarra/LRSL will try to chase down this score this weekend.
Mitch Thomas top scores
Wonthaggi Club is gearing up to defend 9/212 against OMK.
Club won the toss and opted to bat at the Outtrim Recreation Reserve.
Mitch Thomas and Alexander Geyer opened Club’s account, with Geyer making 22 runs and Thomas achieving Club’s top score of 85 runs.
Thomas’ wicket eventually fell to Ryan Williams, who also played a dominant game, claiming 7/63.
Club captain Joel Brann added 26 runs, and 30 runs were put on the board by Stewart Beaumont.
For OMK, Jacob Lamers was the only other wicket taker with 2/69.
OMK will have its turn at bat this weekend.
Town keep Imps honest
Leongatha Town is tasked with chasing down 10/164 following the Imperials’ innings at Leongatha’s East Campus on Saturday.
The Imperials had won the toss, allowing them the first go at bat.
The Imperials had a slow start but were set back on course by Rowen McLennan.
McLennan made 54 runs before he was caught by Madura Madusanka off Rhett Hume’s bowling.
Nick Eddy and Tim Sauvarin added 19 and 18 runs respectively to the Imperials’ final tally.
Bowling honours were shared between Town’s Jack Hume and Madusanka with three wickets each.
Multiple wickets were also taken by Rhett Hume and Buwaneka Wakishta.
Town will have its opportunity to respond this weekend.
