A Grade, Division 1

TWO centuries have set Phillip Island up well for a win against the embattled Nerrena.

With top of the ladder pitted against the bottom, Nerrena managed to gain the first win when it won the toss and chose to send the Sharks in to bat first.

Thomas Niven was the first batsman sent back to the sideline. He was caught by Hayden Funnell for a duck after facing 16 balls.

This saw captain Daniel Mock step up to the crease and dominate. He reached 163 runs before the end of 75 overs and was not out at stumps.

Opening batsman Lachlan Cleeland made 28 runs before his dismissal, which sent in Shiran Rathnayake.

Rathnayake added 113 runs to the scoreboard before he was stopped by a catch from Caine Salmon. 

Twenty-eight more runs were later added by Eli Richards.

Timothy Wightman was Nerrena’s top bowler, taking 2/90.

Other wickets were claimed by Josh Trease and Ryan Clark.

Phillip Island ended is innings with a whopping 4/355.

Nerrena will have the opportunity to bat this weekend. 

Club poses tough opposition 

WONTHAGGI Club gave a competitive performance against Leongatha Town on Saturday.

Club won the toss and chose to bat first.

The early dismissal of the opening partnership allowed Ben Walsh and Ryan Thomas to step up. They contributed 46 and 55 runs respectively.

Batting sixth in the order, captain Joel Brann ensured a comfortable final score for his team, top scoring with 58 runs before he was bowled by Darcy Hume.

Hume ensured the tail end of the batting order made very little impact on the scoreboard, claiming 5/54.

The other wicket takers were Pamuditha Geemal Rajapakshage and Rhett Hume, who took two wickets each.

Town will set out to surpass Club’s score of 10/232 this weekend.

Imps feel Rankin’s wrath

INVERLOCH bowler Lewis Rankin produced a classy performance, taking 7/48 to put the pressure on the Imperials.

Despite this, the Imperials gave a consistent effort and ended its innings with a respectable total of 10/196.

Playing at Inverloch’s Thompson Reserve, the Imperials won the toss and chose to bat first.

Damon Ginnane and Dimithri Weerakkodi Arachchige batted well for the Imps, making 49 and 43 runs respectively.

Both were dismissed at the hands of Rankin.

The remaining three wickets were taken by Andrew Donohue and Harry Butcher with figures of 2/47 and 1/37 respectively.

The Imps will be tasked with defending their score as Inverloch steps up to bat this Saturday.

OMK stand firm against the Cobras 

OMK will be aiming for an outright win after a dismal innings from Korumburra.

Korumburra travelled out to Outtrim and won the toss, choosing to bat first.

Opening batsman Tom Crocker gave the Cobras a strong start, making 35 runs.

However, this turned out to be the top score for the innings.

Captain Harry McNeil and Hemal Ratnayake were the only other batsman to make an impact on the scoreboard, adding 14 and 12 runs respectively.

OMK bowler Jake Cochrane caused the most damage to Korumburra’s batting order, claiming 4/18.

Mudassar Riaz and Ethan Lamers took two wickets each.

Korumburra finished its innings with 9/84. OMK had a steady innings but managed to pass the Cobra’s tally after 24 overs.

Lamers opened the batting for OMK and made the top score of 38 runs before he was bowled by Crocker.

Peter Dell rounded out the innings with 14 not out, and Clayton Quaife and Paul Fermanis added 13 runs each.

Crocker was determined to keep OMK under the pump, taking 3/20.

Nadeesha Belpage was another multiple wicket taker, taking 2/16.

OMK managed a score of 8/104 at stumps.
