WITH two tons recorded, Phillip Island is on its way to a victory against Korumburra.

Playing at the Korumburra Recreation Reserve, Phillip Island launched into its winning way with a successful toss, choosing to bat first.

Connor Epifano and Heath Womersley opened the batting.

Korumburra bowler Mustafa Nader managed to dismiss Womersley for a duck, but Epifano had settled in for a long innings.

Brodie Johnston stepped up and made 37 runs before he was caught by Matthew Allen off the bowling of Ben Spicer.

His dismissal saw captain Daniel Mock enter the game.

Epifano and Mock combined well and caused significant damage on the scoreboard.

Epifano cracked triple figures and made 100 runs before he was run out by Nader.

Nader also dismissed Mock LBW, but not before he had made an incredible 151-run haul.

Thomas Niven and Max Royal saw the innings out, making 43 and 11 not out respectively.

Phillip Island came away with an impressive score of 4/346.

Korumburra will be called on to respond this weekend.

Koonwarra faces tight battle

KOONWARRA L/RSL will have to hold its nerve if it hopes to claim the points from top of the table Nerrena.

Nerrena won the toss and chose to field.

Red Caps bowler Jarrod Hoy quickly dismissed the opening partnership of Anthony Hunt and Mitchell Scrimshaw, but Isuru Darshana stepped in and went on to top score with 39 runs.

Joshua Thomas added 17 runs late in the innings and was also bowled by Hoy.

Hoy had a day out, claiming 4/24, while Timothy Wightman took 3/23.

Koonwarra/LRSL was bowled out 10/113 in the 50th over.

Nerrena opened its account and played 25 overs.

Jack Curtis and Kade Berryman opened but only managed three and eight runs respectively before their dismissal.

Curtis was caught by James Rushton off the bowling of Thomas and Berryman was  LBW to Matt Cooke.

Tadgh Gannon and Hayden Funnell made 25 and 16 not out and will continue Nerrena’s innings this weekend.

Nerrena is sitting on 2/60.

Imperials strike back after Wonthaggi’s wicket woes

THE Imperials looked to be in trouble after they were bowled out 10/94, but Wonthaggi Club also experienced the beginning of a challenging first innings.

Club hosted the Imperials and won the toss, electing to bowl first.

The Imperials suffered a slow start but Timothy Sauvarin – batting fourth in the order – managed to top score with 35 runs.

Club bowler James Sheerin ensured the Imperials had limited scoring opportunities, taking an amazing 6/18.

Fraser West and captain Joel Brann were also multiple wicket takers.

The Imperials were bowled out after 55 overs.

Club found it just as difficult to hit the scoreboard, scraping together 5/26 after 20 overs.

Only Stewart Beaumont made double figures, reaching 10 not out.

Imperial’s Vice-Captain Lachie Wright took 3/12 and Isaac Bolge took 2/9.

Club will continue its innings on Saturday.

OMK poised to pounce

LEONGATHA Town will have to dig deep to hold back OMK.

Leongatha won the toss and went into bat first.

Batting fourth in the order, Madura Madusanka put the first significant score on the board with 20 runs.

Buwaneka Wakishta later added 22 runs, which turned out to be the top score.

Peter Dell led the charge for OMK, claiming 4/41.

Jacob Lamers and Jake Cochrane took two wickets each.

Leongatha Town was bowled out with 10/116.

OMK had time to play 27 overs.

Zavier Lamers opened the batting for the Diggers and made 15 not out.

Ethan Lamers made 21 runs but was caught by Jack Hume off the bowling of Dulaj Lakshitha Mendis Polwaththa Gallage.

Bowlers Rhett and Jack Hume also claimed a wicket each.

OMK will continue its run on Saturday, its score currently sitting at 3/58.
