THE LDCA Under 18 team travelled down to Yarram for the first GCL game of the season under the leadership of new co-captains Tadgh Gannon and Aydan Williams, taking on Sale Maffra.
Winning the toss and batting, the boys compiled a handy score with Riley Harris the anchor of the innings making a well-compiled 59, Mitch Croatto (19), Clayton Quaife (16) Aydan Williams (15) and Harry West (13) all getting starts but unable to kick on.
The boys were disappointed with the final 10 overs of the innings when the chance to push the score past 200 wasn’t taken.
LDCA’s opportunity to bowl saw a great start, with Isaac Bolge (3/19) and Tim Niven (1/17) ripping through the top order.
There was no respite for the batters with the introduction of Rhett Hume (3/19) and Aydan Williams (1/4) maintaining the pressure.
Ethan Smith bowled a good spell of leg spin to claim the other wicket in what was an impressive effort from the bowling group, backed up by good catching to restrict Sale Maffra to 9/96.
It’s an excellent start to the season for the LDCA side, with appreciation expressed for the efforts of team manager Brian Gannon, and Yarram Cricket Club praised for its great facilities and hospitality.
The boys looked terrific in their new shirts, with those in charge of the LDCA team thanking Evans Petroleum for its sponsorship.
