• A Grade, Division 1
AFTER rain caused mayhem at the beginning of the LDCA season late last year, it returned on Saturday around the region, cancelling much of the day’s fixtures.
In total, just six out of the 19 scheduled games saw any play on what was a wet and wild day of weather.
One such game that did take place was the contest at Outtrim Recreation Oval, where hosts OMK took on the visiting Koonwarra L/RSL who lost the toss and were tasked with bowling first.
Joel Cuman and Ethan Lamers (95 from 150) opened up for the Diggers and put together an okay start before Cuman fell for nine.
Lamers, as he has for much of this season, then continued on, playing some magnificent drives with Noel Creed (32 from 56) for company who helped Lamers further the OMK score.
Creed then became young gun Harry Hoekstra’s (4/40 from 16) first victim and at 2/99, the innings opened up for the visitors who’d been forced to work hard for breakthroughs to this point.

Although the going got even tougher from then on as Thomas Wyatt (105 from 118) came to the crease to join Lamers and the pair tore the game right open, as brief showers came and went and turned to sunshine.
Lamers was the next to go, falling agonisingly short of a deserved three figure score, departing the crease with an excellent half century, his fourth of the season.
Despite the talented opener falling short of the ton, he was able to put together a huge 114-run stand with Wyatt who made no mistake getting himself to his first century for the season, posting a superb 105 which included 15 fours and a six!
The Koony attack then cleaned up the tail with relative ease, although the hosts were still good enough weather the Cougars storm and endure the actual elements to post 7/306 after their 75 overs.
Hoekstra was the pick of the bowlers for Koony, they’ll head back to Outtrim this weekend to chase the 307 runs required for victory.
All other A1 and A2 matches will now be one-day contests this weekend as this match between the Diggers and the Cougars was the only A grade fixture that went ahead last weekend.
